White House defends 9/11 ties to Iraq in Bush speech
(White House-AP) June 29, 2005 - The White House is defending President Bush's repeated references to September 11th in Tuesday night's speech aimed at shoring up support for the Iraq War.
War critics, including House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, accuse the president of "exploiting the sacred ground of 9/11" - knowing there's "no connection" between the attacks and Saddam Hussein's regime.

Bush made five direct references to 9/11, and several indirect ones, in his speech at Fort Bragg. He said terrorists want to shake America's will in Iraq, just as they did by attacking New York and Washington.

Spokesman Scott McClellan says Bush wasn't talking about any link between Baghdad and the hijackings, but he was saying those attacks "changed the equation," forcing America to "go on the offense" against terrorists.

The spokesman says in Iraq, America is fighting "the enemy abroad, so we don't have to fight them here at home."

3. HA! They're on the defensive already. Doesn't that tell you something?
If the speech was an epoch shattering success, there'd be no need for defense, right?

plenty. Saying bush wasn't talking about any link between Baghdad and the hijackings that is all they have been saying since the plan to attack Iraq. Liars, Liars, Liars.

8. There it is.. "change the equation"
Scotty, 1 + 1 ALWAYS equals 2.. You can't just decide to "change the equation" because at that point it's no longer an equation. 1 + 1 = 3 is not an equation, it's an inequality. I think I learned that in first grade.

12. Calling Iraqi's terrorists is RACIST!
Spokesman Scott McClellan says Bush wasn't talking about any link between Baghdad and the hijackings, but he was saying those attacks "changed the equation," forcing America to "go on the offense" against terrorists.

So, Scotty ... because Bush failed us on 911 - we have licence to kill all muslims now? #@^*!

13. I wonder why Snottie has to "clarify" what his boss said?
Isn't it odd how all these reporters, pundits, congressmen, and other hearers of Bush's major address all drew the same conclusion about Bush linking 9/11 to Iraq? And now poor Snottie has to come out and patiently explain over and over again what a bunch of dumbasses they are for thinking that?

15. Chimp is just apeing.
Surveys show lots of Americans still believe that Iraq, and more specifically Saddam Hussein were big supporters of OBL and a prime factor in the 9/11 attacks. It just goes to show that if you repeat a lie often enough, and loud enough, people will think it's true.

We'll just have to keep repeating the truth, often and loudly. In the months before the 4/03 invasion of Iraq, Osama said repeatedly that Saddam was an apostate because he ruled over a secular nation and not a Muslim one. No love there.

"The State of the Union address was tonight. A little fun fact: Historians say that most presidents have begun their State of the Union address by saying 'The state of the union is strong.' ... However President Bush started his speech a little differently. He said 'the State of the Union is strongtastic' and then he wandered away, but they got him back."

"Bush said he would never answer (the marijuana) question because he wants to set a good example for kids. He doesn't ever want them to say 'Hey Daddy, President Bush tried marijuana, so I will.' So now instead when parents say 'Son, you been smoking dope?' they can say 'Hey Daddy, President Bush didn't answer that question and I'm not going to answer it either.'"
