Bulgaria Considered for US Missile Base to Deter Iran
Bulgaria Considered for US Missile Base to Deter Iran

Politics: 10 October 2003, Friday.
The US government is considering stationing defensive missiles in a number of European countries against a potential attack from Iran, Germany's Sueddeutsche newspaper reported on Friday issue citing State Department sources.

US defence policy specialist Benjamin Schreer of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs told the newspaper that Romania and Bulgaria could be the "first choices."

The daily quoted a high-ranking US diplomat as saying that the Americans would like to develop a defensive missile network with Europeans but doubted whether a deal could be reached quickly by NATO.

Because of these concerns, Washington may pursue bilateral agreements with individual European countries for deployment in 2006 anti-ballistic systems in exchange for economic aid, the Sueddeutsche said. (snip/...)

1. Missiles in Bulgaria can mean only
deterrance of Russia. But they don't want to say that. Have you seen comments out of Russia lately, regarding NATO's aggressive posture?

In today's climate, the maniacs in Washington need to propose the lie that Bulgaria faces a clear and present danger from, er, Iran. Yeah, that's it. :eyes:

5. It's possible, but...
It might also be a warning to Iran that we're serious about the nuke program. Unfortunately nothing that comes from the Bush WH diplomatically has real weight these days. No one to thank but themselves for that.

3. Oh sh*t ...
By use of a ruler and a web-grade map of the region, I deduce that
any missile based in Bulgaria that can reach all of Iran can also
control all of Europe (excepting the top of Scandinavia) as well as
the entire Middle East and North Africa.

Bear in mind that there is no difference between a "ballistic missile"
that hits the ground and an "anti-ballistic missile" of the same size
that hits the ground. (Yes, the control systems and design theory is
different but the effect of X pounds of explosive hitting a built-up
area is the same regardless of the "intention" of the weapon maker.)

Even without any :tinfoilhat: about PNAC/NWO control, this is seriously
worrying given the history of accurate, calm, collected missile
controllers that the various US forces employ (viz., RAF Tornados,
civilian jets). When you add the "bunker-busting" devices currently
under development, this could get shitty very quickly indeed.
