Wolfowitz Says U.S. Will Not Be Driven from Iraq
Barf bag warning ahead of quote

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz vowed on Thursday that the United States would not be deterred by the almost daily attacks in Iraq and declared U.S. forces were winning their mission.
Wolfowitz, addressing an audience of several hundred people at a function where a conservative think-tank honored him as a "liberator" of Iraq, said Saddam Hussein holdouts and "foreign terrorists" were trying desperately to undermine Iraq's progress and throw the country into chaos.

"The terrorists in Iraq believe their attacks on innocent people will weaken our resolve. They believe we will run from a challenge. They are mistaken. Americans are not the running kind," he said.

"Our troops will not be deterred by the desperate acts of a dying regime or ideology ... We are winning," he added.

Wolfowitz, a major intellectual force behind President Bush's decision to invade Iraq, received the "Keeper of the Flame" award from the Center for Security Policy.

28. Real easy for the chickenhawks to talk so macho.
Dressing up in an airman's jacket and blowing tough just doesn't get it for me, especially when it comes from chickenhawks who never saw any combat action. Let's get the children of all political appointees and the top administration officials over there and see how long the occupation of Iraq would last.

It's not a case of being "driven out".

It's about leaving voluntarily because we're only there because of lying bastards like Wolfy.

5. So many windows, so little time...
"Our troops will not be deterred by the desperate acts of a dying regime or ideology ... We are winning," he added.

***Translation: Bring it on!

Wolfowitz, a major intellectual force behind President Bush's decision to invade Iraq, received the "Keeper of the Flame" award from the Center for Security Policy.

***A major intellectual force? By whose definition? Oh, sorry, my bad, I guess in this administration anyone can be a major intellectual force by comparison to the imbecile in chief!

"The terrorists in Iraq believe their attacks on innocent people will weaken our resolve. They believe we will run from a challenge. They are mistaken. Americans are not the running kind," he said.

***One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. It would, however, be very reassuring to see Wolfie putting his money where his mouth is, in other words, in Iraq, in uniform. Then we might see just how fast HE can run. Snarf!

15. wolfie in uniform
The only uniform that I want to see this vile piece of shit wearing would be a state or federally issued garment with a number across the front. wolfie wearing a uniform of any branch of the military would be an obscenity and insult to those that have served.

7. I'm running for office
and I've been out canvassing neighborhoods, with a particular emphasis on independent voters. I was talking to an elderly man last night - never voted in a Democratic primary in his life - and he tore into Bush something fierce.

"He's just looting the country and giving it all to his rich friends."

"They ought to make him and Cheney go out and direct traffic on those street corners. That'd put an end to it."

People are waking up. Slowly. But they're waking up.

19. The neocons deliberately forgot Vietnam.
Since they were all busy dodging it, having "other priorities", anal cysts, deserting, and all of that, it's much easier to pretend it never happenned at all. At least until the PNAC body count tops the 58,000 killed in 'Nam. And if those fucknuts get 4 more years, it's not out of the question.

23. "wrong on everything else"...for the past 30 years!
Wolfy was part of the "Team B" exercise foisted on the CIA back in '76, by congressional hawks who thought its in-house analysts were underestimating the strength of Soviet forces. We've since learned the CIA was overestimating its strength and the "Team B" analysis was pure RW paranoid fantasy.

But, unlike us mere mortals, failure never seems to damage these guys' careers.

Notice how Bush Co is handling the Iraq problem? War not going well? Simple just apply a little PR blitz, some spin and hype and the problem is solved. Just like the economy. Stand in front of a sign that says “Jobs and Growth” and just like that the economy is all better.

29. Wolfowitz is a fascist little worm. I wonder how he would fare in
a cell block of hardened criminals, which is where he should be? The entire membership of PNAC are guilty of crimes against this nation, Iraq, and the world. If a Dem government is elected, does anyone think the country will have enough gumption to call for justice against these people? We'll need Nuremberg type trials, in an effort to quash these fascist forever, and insure they can never again rise to power in this country!

Is that the kind of desperate acts and dying regimes you're talkin' about there, Wolfie?

Let them go to Baghdad!

34. Audience was GOP idea of a scientific sample.
Like Cheney today and Bush always, the audience is hand-picked. These conservative think tanks are more than just pseudo-intellectual paper mills. They also supply a ready, enthusiastic audience when the "cons" want their ideas applauded.

39. I would like to quote from
Stratfor.com: a web site run by former intelligence officers from the CIA. Sometime in June, it became clear that there was something dreadfully, horribly gone wrong in Iraq. Americans were getting killed at an average of 1 soldier per day.

Of the insurgents, they wrote, "this is a war they just might win".

40. I believe this regime will eventually be destroyed by its own evil
But even if this is so, we must analyze, first, how such a horror came to be in our USA, and, what we can do to make sure it never happens again. Instituting real campaign finance reform would be one giant step forward. Fair and consistently conducted elections, with voting apparati (whatever they may be) producing paper trails, is absolutely necessary. Regulating the media so it cannot under any circumstances become monopolized by one political faction is also mandatory.

42. We were "winning" in Vietnam too
Right up till the day of the siege of the US embassy. Winning hearts and minds. The threat of the international spread of communism was ever present in those days to justify the fight.

I guess every generation has to be treated to one of these, otherwise our lives wouldn't be complete.

44. Pure Nixon era hot air

When they start talking about not being driven out of something, you know that getting out is all they're talking about behind closed doors.

As someone said of Tricky Dick, "Someone who says in public that he won't resign four times, will." The more Wolfowitz talks about 'not getting driven out', the likelier it becomes.

These boys are just like Stalin's Communist leadership elite: they can only hold one idea about any particular item in their minds at any given time. So it comes very easily for them to say the opposite of what they mean to do, because they see it all as one idea with two forms of embellishment rather than two contradictory notions. Small minds have such advantages of efficiency....
