Anti-Europeanism flourishes on U.S. right(Relig. Right & encouraged by WH)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As President Bush heads to next week's Group of Eight summit in Scotland, one of his main tasks will be to try to mitigate anti-U.S. sentiments in Europe -- but he may also need to look at growing anti-Europeanism in the United States, political and foreign policy analysts say.

"There is a strong strain of anti-Europeanism coming from sections of the Republican Party, related to and sometimes encouraged by the White House," said Jan Kubik, director of the center for comparative European studies at Rutgers University.

"Connected to that is the anti-Europeanism of the religious right, where Europe is seen as a place without God that has become too secular and lost its values," he said.

Many Americans were outraged at the refusal of prominent European nations, especially France and Germany, to support the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. Now, some analysts fear that European anti-Americanism and U.S. anti-Europeanism may have become mutually reinforcing.

1. Which is odd
considering that it's where most of them came from.

And many of them have spent years in geneological research checking out their pedigrees.

3. I can't believe it matters....
that the religious right is anti-European. It's not like their huge population was ever making a bum-rush for airline tickets to Europe anyway. It reminds me of the idiots with the "Boycott France" bumper stickers on their trucks, like they were buying anything from France in the first place. Meanwhile, the rest of the world, you know, the other 90% or more of the population, will continue to buy anything French or European that we want

4. Actually, Anti-Europeanism is a cover-up for simple xenophobia.

What foreign country do ANY of them approve? One way or another, they appear to hate ALL foreign countries.

In fact, they hate the "northeast" part of the United States. On edit: Add they hate other religions in this country, and they hate "the poor."

6. There is a strong strain of anti-1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and anti-Capitol
Building that houses republican hatred from so called "good christians"; it being enough to make you sick. With the miserable, wretched right wing running the show, it's no wonder no one in the world likes us.

8. If the religious right only knew how much they've angered God.
I can only presume. But I'd bet money on it.

I wager most of them have not the slightest clue what the main thrust of the bible is. And it can be summed up in one word. And it isn't hate. We're here as a group. And they're making it very difficult to remain intact.

I noticed they pulled Friedman's quote out for the last sentence. That seemed a bit out of place.

12. Well, here's a question, then
Who DO they like? It's probably a really short list.

Let's see, first it was France and Germany that pissed them off.
Then Spain, then Philippines, then South Korea, Belgium....

Pretty soon there won't be anyone left un-hated.

14. Are there any countries Republicans actually like?
France, Germany, and Russia are out over Iraq. Spain, Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands are out over state recognition of gay marriage. Middle eastern countries are out because... you know why- they don't worship the right god. Same goes for south-west asian countries.

Latin American countries are out because they don't have enough white people in them and the majority of the folks tend to lean to the left. Besides that, they keep sneaking their brown-skinned folks to the U.S.

South east asian countries are out mainly due to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos and the problems we had with them in the past. Repubs still have a bone to pick with the Japanese and the communist Chinese, not to mention North Korea. South Korea is on the outs because they have advocated tolerance toward N. Korea.

Who does that leave? A few east European countries who are going to pull their troops out of Iraq, leaving the Repubs with no friends at all, except for Tony Blair and the small number of Britons who support the war in Iraq.
