The Sun newspaper has declared that it will contest any lawsuit by Saddam Hussein over the publication of photographs of him in his underpants.
The photographs, published last month, also showed the former Iraqi dictator washing his trousers and sleeping in his cell.
According to reports, Saddam has already tried to hire David Price, a media lawyer, and will seek £1 million in damages. Alex Wade, a lawyer for The Sun, last night rejected the former despot’s allegation that the photographs were a serious breach of the Geneva Convention as “indefensible”.
“His claim is preposterous and we will defend our reputation,” Mr Wade said. “We are preparing a strong case against Saddam and plan to sue for libel.”
