Iraqi police have opened fire on 1000 demonstrators in Tikrit as they were protesting the killing of the local council's head official, authorities said.

At least four people, including a police officer, were wounded on Thursday.

The protesters demanded the resignation of the deputy governor and police chief because they think their clan was responsible for Wednesday's killing of Ali Ghalib Ibrahim, who belongs to a rival clan, Mayor Wael Ibrahim Ali said.

12. This is EXACTLY the problem we ran into in Vietnam. The insurgents

(Communists, bandits, VC, terrorists, whatever) are fueled by ideology. The puppet gov't is motivated by easy money. Since the US has no "exit strategy," they construct their own in numbered bank accounts in Lichtenstein.

Think about it . . . isn't that what you or I would do under the circumstances? Be prepared to bail at any moment.

We've got the money and money equals corruption. They have no money and are winning the hearts and minds of the locals by their sacrifice to the cause.

How many Iraqis are willing to be suicide bombers to STOP THE TERRORISTS? There's the problem: puppet gov't officials who are feathering their own nests before everything goes to hell vs. insurgents who have absolutely nothing to lose and who believe completely in what they are doing.

Look at the history of insurgencies--

The first red revolution against Czar Nicholas in Russia.

Maoists against the Guo-min-dong (Nationalists) in China. Chang Kai-Shek had the full backing of the American gov't and got routed by a peasant army.

Algierians against the French.

The Irish against the English.

Iranians against the Shah.

Zionists against the British in Palestine.

Castro's Cuba against a US-backed Batista (the Platt Amendment gave the US the right to intervene militarily in Cuba--we occupied the country for 3 years).

Vietnamese against the French and the US.

These object lessons don't bode well for our side.

ON EDIT--I forgot about Afghanistan against the British (180,000 occupying troops were killed almost to the last man).

Iraq against the British. During their twenty or so year occupation, they were constantly harassed by insurgents, and eventually cut and ran.
