IOC: Britain will still hold 2012 Games

LONDON - The International Olympic Committee said its decision to award London the 2012 Games was not in question after a series of deadly explosions paralyzed the British capital Thursday.

"From what we understand, this is not at all related to the Olympic Games," IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said from Singapore. "We have full confidence in the London authorities in securing the event."

London won the IOC vote, beating Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow.

A day after celebrating its big Olympic victory, London was hit by a series of explosions that rocked its subway and tore open a packed double-decker bus during the morning rush hour.

And I woke up to this.

I don't know whether any of this was a factor in the timing of the explosions (Britain was already in the news because of the G8, and maybe the diversion of security from London was more significant). But London's not even having a day to be happy about it seems particularly mean-spirited and vicious.
