Two Iraqi oil pipelines ablaze (Al-Jazeera)
Two Iraqi oil pipelines ablaze

Friday 10 October 2003, 23:51 Makka Time, 20:51 GMT

Resistance fighters are said
to be targeting oil pipelines

Two oil pipelines have burst into flames in northern Iraq after being hit by blasts on a day when two oil employees were also killed.

Adel Gazzaz, the Director of Iraq's Northern Oil Company said the first explosion started a fire on a pipeline linking the northern city of Kirkuk with al-Debs oil fields, further to the north.

A second blast started a fire on a parallel pipeline running at about five metres from the first.

Firefighters rushed to the area in an attempt to extinguish the fire, Gazzaz said.

The first explosion was caused by a bomb planted on the pipeline and the second pipeline blew up because of the heat, firefighters said.

2. I See Condi's Efforts Are Exceeding Those of Rummies
I wonder how much Halliburton makes for each pipeline blast?

"Thank God the oil industry is going to get another congressman because poor Dick Cheney is going to need some help representing Halliburton." _ Rep. Jim Dunnam, D-Waco, on a Midland-based congressional district developed at the insistance of House Speaker Tom Craddick. The speaker had said he wanted more representation for the oil and gas industry.

4. In other news,
things are going just swell in Iraq. We've opened hospitals, rebuilt schools, reduced the outside temperature, and because of our presence in Iraq, the sun now rises every single day. Those bombs going off, the soldiers and civilians who are dying and getting hurt are all a major part of the plan. And may we add that the plan is working better than we ever expected. Now, look over there, there's Rush, Arnold, Kobe and the sniper. For goodness sake, pay attention to the real problems in the world. For WYAS, I bid you a good night.

YAS: You're A Sucker!

6. They don't get it. Americans don't care about good news in Iraq.
Why would we care about the reconstruction of Iraq? That's not why we went there.

10. It's impossible.
We don't have the resources to maintain that ammount of oil lines.

8. That's such a good point, alcuno.
I've read snippets of news here and there, and it looks like Bushco is jumping on the 'good news bandwagon' about Iraq. It doesn't change the fact that the Iraqis (as well as many others in Middle East) are very, very patient. The waves of the ocean can wear down even a rock, given enough time.

And my heart tells me the Iraqis are in it for the long haul. They don't want a single gallon of oil to go into an american tanker.

13. Wasn't there also a plan
for a pipeline to Israel? Better not do it because it's not going to last very long.

12. What a waste
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 11:28 AM by DoYouEverWonder
Imagine if you took all those resources and skills and applied them to something useful?

Instead W's foreign and economic policy consists of little more than tax cuts and blow everything up, so my friends can rebuild it, is such an enormous waste.

14. remembering the lies lies lies
"Iraqi Oil will easily pay for the reconstruction of the country the US taxpayer has nothing to worry about".

Anyone with an IQ above 50 knew this was bullshit.
Poor soldiers daily watching their friends die in a mess they dont want to be in.

15. Is Halliburton blowing up the oil pipelines, so they can 'rebuild' them?
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 01:29 PM by Lori Price CLG
Is Halliburton blowing up the oil pipelines in Iraq, to justify the money they 'need' to 'rebuild' them? Just a thought.

After all, I would imagine the security would be tight around the oil pipelines.

16. Hundred mile pipelines would require 500 thousand guards!
These pipelines stretch for hundreds of miles. Not enough soldiers in Iraq to do the job!
