WP: Cheney Goes on Offensive Over Iraq
Unyielding Speech Is Designed to Regain Support

By Dana Milbank and Walter Pincus

Saturday, October 11, 2003; Page A01

Vice President Cheney capped a White House effort to regain its equilibrium over the Iraq occupation by delivering a blistering rebuttal yesterday to critics of the administration's foreign policy and arguing that a consensus-based foreign policy is obsolete.

(snip)

The vice president's speech had harsh words for Bush's critics. He portrayed those who objected to the president's "preemption" policy as opening the United States to attack. Bush "will not permit gathering threats to become certain tragedies," Cheney said, adding that "weakness and drift and vacillation in the face of danger invite attacks."

Still, Cheney's stout defense of preemption struck a different tone even from other top Bush officials. In a speech last month, Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said Bush's strategy is much more than preemption. "Above all, the president's strategy is a strategy of partnerships," he said. "It strongly affirms the vital role of the partnerships that we have throughout the world -- our partnerships with NATO, our partnership with the United Nations and with so many other precious alliances that we have created over the last 50 years."

Cheney, predicting that "historians will look back on our time and pay tribute to our 43rd president," told his audience of a videotape that showed Hussein allowing two Doberman pinschers to eat a general alive. "Those who declined to support the liberation of Iraq would not deny the evil of Saddam Hussein's regime," he said. "They must concede, however, that had their own advice been followed, that regime would rule Iraq today."

8. Sorry
but in the future, when the planet is a smoldering hulk, because of the petty vendictivness of the human race, there will not be any historians to document shit.

Generals....just so they remember that this horrible fate could happen to them....

actual full transcript here...it's truly hard to believe some of this, but it appears to be quite TRUE !!! cheney actually came up with these wild stories to instill FEAR in Americans, in Pentagon Generals, and the whole wide world...must wonder if he too, like rush limbaugh, is actually talking through a drug stupor...

cheney transcript....insane....disconnected from reality, hallucinations....
http://www.heritage.org/Research/MiddleEast/hl800.cfm

on edit: interesting that these horrible videos are only reported as having been seen by others....the alternative world as seen by cheney...and he looks to be in failing health...

3. Milbank and Pincus absolutely take the dick apart lie by lie.
Read the article, folks. Every insanely spun allegation is deconstructed to a fare-thee-well.

5. This is exactly why the Democratic Congressfolk that voted for...
the authorization of this war should start condemning it. They are screwing our party with this "the war was the right thing" approach.

6. I can't believe Murkin idiots didn't see the lies back in 99 when Cheney
lied about his residence. The sonofabitch lived in TEXAS and wasn't elegible to run as VP but phonied up an address in Wyoming to make it "legal."

And now I have to stop because I'm dangerously close to saying what I really want to do to this prick.

14. oh go ahead and say it
I did...on aol boards ...several times....months ago...I was prepared for the fucks to take me away. They have yet to come get me. I REALLY don't know why they haven't....Oh sure, I am in the Total Information Awareness database, but that is a fucking honor.
I guess it has to do with making sure you use a creative writing technique that gives you LOTS of slither room. I made it long enough so that there were large portions that a jury would say "oh he's obviously using parody and not being literal", and then just a hint of what I "might" mean. Case in point: this post. Find something in here the jackbooted prosecutors could use... What am I even referring to? I haven't said anything. In other words say it, but don't say it. Do not be indirect, that could still bite you. Just be rambling, skirting, coy, and double-meaning, and you'll be fine.
If you don't think you can be creative enough, or are prone to being stressed out, or feel having your name with an asterisk next to it over at TIA is not something you can deal with, then I would not recommend it. Cause you never know.

19. This should be avoided
It is against DU policy & there is a remote possibility somebody might really take you to task.

Put this all into perspective, for Cheney this is a big act. He goes home at night, has dinner and forgets all about it. He isn't worth the trouble.

Put your energy into doing something positive. Volunteer to do some difficult work that needs to be done in your community. The truth will prevail. Cheney is doing himself in.

These people are beyond self-righteous and are in-your-face with their dagma. It's "My way or the highway" for them. Scaife has given this group LOTS of money.

And then explain how one general x 30,000 = our contribution to evil.

20. right, Casual.
They ALL go home after a hard day's work and enjoy themselves. I have a copy of Architectural Digest, and Dick and Mrs. Cheney are on the cover of the magazine.

Inside, we get treated to Dick's BEAUTIFUL designer home. We get to meet his designer, who had a "tough job" pulling everything together to make a "livable but artistic environment".

Dick, who stands by, agrees. He really does live in a beautiful home. It cost several million, courtesy of Helliburton Oil, and the rest of us, of course.

21. So Cheney thinks the UN veto power is bad?
Who do you think is going to be the next Security Council member to use the veto? Could it possibly be the USA, on the vote to condemn the West Bank wall on Tuesday?
