Silencing the Reservists - Newsweek - form to enter your comment!!!
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 12:44 AM by dArKeR
Is Donald Rumsfeld’s plan to remake the Army designed to ease the political pressure during unpopular wars?

President Bush and his people have a point. The news in Iraq isn’t allbad. Schools are open and the deck of Baathist cards has dwindled to abad hand. So why the repetitive bad-news headlines?

THE BUSHIES BLAME the media. But that ignores two painful realities: Iraq is hosting a deadly jihad all-star game and, even more important, the Iraqi war has required the massive mobilization of Army reservists—all those citizen-soldiers who are doing the constable and civil-affairs jobs at the heart of nation-building.
The Army National Guard and Army Reserve are mobilized in numbers not seen since World War II. And reservists are either staying away longer than their families ever imagined or they’re coming home in body bags. We can’t wage a large-scale conflict without them, thanks to a Vietnam-era policy—a strategic check-and-balance—established to prevent politicians from waging war without broad popular support.

The W. Bush Adm. is the most corrupt in the history of the United States!

Why are American's so stupid to accept what's happening to our country?

Silence the Bush Adm. put them all in prison for Crimes Against Humanity.

Why investigate Clinton for a kiss lie but not Bush for all the terrible things they've done with all the death they've caused? All the No-Bid contracts, outsourcing our technology sector, spending enough of our money in Iraq which could have gave us all health care insurance... What are you doing media, letting them destroy our nation!

OUR soldiers begging their families in the small Colorado town of Salida to send food, medical supplies, even windex and paper towels to clean their vehicle windows....begging for flea collars to keep the bugs off their ankles...how much more patheticly will shrub treat our troops????...while Haliburton makes billions, there is no toilet paper, soap or toothpaste for OUR troops...or even sunglasses/sunblock...or simple first aid like aspirin and eye drops....

‘Basics’ needed for those serving in the Middle East

by Arlene Shovald
Mail Staff Writer

-snips-

Sgt. Barett “Bear” McNabb has been describing the conditions in Iraq in letters to his wife, Georgette, and his mother, Georgia McNabb of Salida. “The men need a lot of things that we would consider necessities,” Georgia said. “Bear’s wife and I have been sending items which he has shared with his men, but the need and the expense is so great we have decided to “go public” and ask for help.

They need the most basic things which the Army is not providing.” Items needed include AA batteries, sunblock, Chapstick and personal products such as toothpaste, Gold Bond powders, aspirin, ibuprofen , shampoo, lotion, body soap, shaving cream, disposable razors and toilet paper.

Cheap, wrap-around sunglasses, like those from dollar stores, are needed. The cheap ones are best because they become scratched from the sand. They also need eye drops because there are lots of sand and eye irritations. Beef jerky is a treat, as are hard candies and other foods that won’t melt in extreme heat. The men were requesting flea collars to wear on their ankles to keep the sand fleas at bay.....Coffee, coffee filters, powdered creamer, sugar packets, sauce packets of all kinds (from fast food places), powdered drinks, duct tape, Ziplock bags, hand sanitizer, Windex and paper towels,....

4. My response (from the wife of a soldier in Iraq)
You claim you're anxious but fact is, media outlets all over this country are pushing so-called experts on the public in an effort to downplay the severity of the situation in Iraq.

The food shortages for the soldiers was "poo-poo'ed" ,but they were true.

The lack of safe drinking water was also "poo-pooe'd" , but that was true.

We have so-called experts telling us morale is not low and the complaints are the "common" complaints of every soldier. Which is nothing more than a lie.

Morale is rock-bottom and the complaints range from not enough food, no safe drinking water, to 20 hour shifts with no relief in sight. Lack of confidence in the leadership and a complete distrust of the reasons for being there.

My husband is in Iraq and when these so-called experts spew their lies of indoctrination, I wonder at the stupidity of anyone that buys the lies.

Those spouting such propaganda have no shame, so I don't wonder about their motives. Especially since I know Haliburton is being protected by the soldiers.

I'm sick to death of grinning idiots getting on TV and smirking their way through lies, hoping to convince the public of W's of MD and a connection between Saddam and bin Laden.

Those soldiers have no other thought than staying alive. Don't flatter yourself, America, into thinking you and yours play any part in it. This isn't a war for liberation or the "American way of life", it's an invasion of conquest. There is a difference. There's nothing noble about it.

Wrap yourself in the flag and it covers your eyes...and that's just how people are acting...blind. They are blinded by fear and false patriotism. Fear and false patriotism won't get them anything but a country run by tyrants.

5. Think they'll even care?
Here's my statement:

The Bush Administration has, simply, committed treason and other crimes against humanity on a vast scale.

They have lied us into TWO wars, looted the economy to enrich themselves and their cronies, and are pursuing a systematic program to silence dissent, control information (which YOU enable), and rule the rest of the globe with an iron fist.

You would be wise to see the dangers and denounce your involvement with these traitors. Your efforts on their behalf are scandalous and un-American. We are all very aware of the role you play - your presstitutes kneel before the neoconservatives and sell your services, and not even for the thirty pieces of silver given to Judas.

You are only pawns to these people. They do not - cannot - care about you, any of you. WAKE UP. Stop aiding and abetting lying, murdering traitors, because if they attain the world they seek, there will come a day when they knock on YOUR door in the middle of the night.

6. It does help to write the media. In my short time I've gotten replies,
about, 12. From both sides, Moral reporters to Immoral Republican sided reporters. (I think you all should stop using the terms 'liberal' and 'conservative'. I honestly believe we've let them turn a little negative feeling association with the word 'liberal'. We need to turn the tables and call us 'Moral' and them 'Immoral'. That's the truth and all I can think of. I open for other terms.)

I have posted some of the reporters replies to me but then I stopped because I think it could hurt them. You would not believe some of the implied text I have gotten. I don't believe as many reporters support the Repukes as tha amount of pro stories they get. I believe the reporters are forced to write pro Repuke stories by management. I have gotten emails from top online reporters at CBS, MSGOP, Reuters, Washington Post, Newsweek...

Help these moral reporters out and give them response.

Never use vulgar language because I'm sure their filters just delete those files without ever passing them on.

8. Here's mine...they WILL care if they get enough of these!
Please do make all the money you can off War Stories - that's the way we run the country - patriotic young men and young women endure disgusting conditions of privation and danger in patently ill-advised foreign adventures, while the industrial base makes all they can from their suffering.

Like you, the media, with your "heartwarming" stories - there is nothing heartwarming about being eaten by fleas, going without meals or water because the private contractor who is currently paying millions of dollars per year to the sitting vice-president of the United States, and who is also sitting on thousands of juicy stock options just waiting to be cashed in when the moment is "right."

Any country which sends its young, as we do, to protect the rich and old, will pay the price as the leadership of the future is eviscerated, and only those rich enough and connected enough to avoid any real sacrifice run more and more of these moneymaking schemes which cost the blood, sweat, toil and tears of our future, continue to stack up dollars on dollars.

I certainly do hope that there is a flaming hell. That's all that keeps me going most days.
