US official sees Zarqawi spectre in London attacks
08 Jul 2005 19:22:58 GMT

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, July 8 (Reuters) - The series of bombings in London highlight U.S. concerns about a "two-way pipeline" moving Islamic militants between Europe and al Qaeda chief Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's insurgent network in Iraq, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official said on Friday.

The bombings that killed more than 50 people and wounded 700 in London's deadliest peacetime attack bore all the hallmarks of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network, which was responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, on New York and Washington, authorities say.

U.S. counterterrorism experts believe European-born militants recruited by Zarqawi for Iraq's insurgency could be behind the bombings.

"We are concerned about the possible involvement of Zarqawi's network," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the investigation in London.

5. I'm concerned about the possible involvement of the BFEE network
And my opinion is just as valid as this unnamed US official.

Isn't just a bit dangerous to assign blame with absolutely no proof?

7. OF COURSE THEY DO...how else could they make the false causal
chain....

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi' is purportedly (without any proof whatsoever) in Iraq
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi' is purportedly (without any proof whatsoever) in Iran
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi' is purportedly (without any proof whatsoever) involved in the london Bombings

Therefore: we must bomb IRAN!

8. The seed has been planted
Whether it's true or not... the story that there "may" be a connection will be enough for the wingnuts to say that's why we need to "stay the course in Iraq"

If Iraq hadn't happened, we would most definitely have OBL and Zarqawi would never been named as a danger (he really isn't...just someone the bush regime can hang their hat on).

While Bush didn't directly bomb London, I truly believe that it wouldn't have happened if Iraq was left alone.

11. Boy, he really gets around, from now on he will be known as Dr. Evil...
He will now take responsibility for everything bad in the world. From stubbed toes and paper cuts to all sorts of terrorist acts.

So next time you slam your finger in the door, just exclaim, "Damn that Dr. EviL!!"

Or if you get into a car wreck, "Dr. Evil is everywhere! I can't even drive safely anymore!"

So the next time see or hear about another terrorist attack, you can beat the gov't* to the punch, "it's Dr. Evil!!" Way to help out the administration*, huh?

Colossal failure*

Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 04:33 PM by fedsron2us
if he thinks killing office clerks and assorted tourists on the London tube is going to change the policies of people like Bush and Blair. He would have to take out people far higher up the food chain to achieve that result. Over twenty years ago the IRA came very near to blowing up the entire British government yet this terrorist mastermind somehow never seems to get close to achieving a similar coup. It does make you wonder.

Because his group have apparently not been tardy in publishing their claims for previous activities.

I've not heard of any such claim (so far).

35. The it is really Bush's fault.
Saddam Hussein seemed to have things under control, as far as extremists in Iraq went. The al-Zarqawi group only became notorious after the invasion and consequent anarchy in Iraq. This bears all the hallmarks of a Bush caused catastrophe.

40. "Zarqawi: Everywhere and Nowhere"

"Zarqawi: Everywhere and Nowhere"
7-7-5, Asian Times

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/GG07Ak02.html

"In the end, the vast mass of reportage on Zarqawi amounts to countless statements based on anonymous sources hardly less shadowy - to ordinary readers - than him. He exists, then, in a kind of eternal netherworld of reportage, rumor and attribution. It could almost be said that never has a figure been more regularly written about based on less hard information."

A great read on ole MC Al-Z..
