Young Republican meeting target of military question
July 8, 2005

Despite an Internet effort to drum up opposition, several hundred of the nation's most ambitious young Republicans convened Thursday with little controversy.

Activists of a loosely organized campaign called "Operation Yellow Elephant" had threatened to protest the Young Republican National Convention at Mandalay Bay this week.

They argue that Young Republicans who support the war in Iraq should enlist in the military, especially given recent lags in recruiting.

Their motto: Sign up or shut up.

1. Yellow Elephant = Chickenhawks
Only too eageer to send someone else to fight in their place to preserve their own Republican Good Times at the Mandalay Bay. I'm sure the young repubs will drink a toast of some exquisite champagne to salute those from the "lower classes" who are up to their asses in sand fleas and snipers.

Young GOP Eager to Face Hillary Clinton

Friday July 8, 2005 9:16 PM

By CHRISTINA ALMEIDA

Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Young Republicans have one thing to say to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton about a possible 2008 presidential bid: Bring it on.

Members attending the group's biennial convention said it's not too early to talk about how to keep a Republican in the White House, and they believe Clinton could help them win again if she were on the Democratic ticket.

``I think it's very likely the senator from New York will run,'' said Rick Veenstra, 27, chairman of the Illinois Young Republicans. ``She'll bring a lot of people to the polls. The name Clinton before a number of Republicans is akin to waving a red flag.''

Convention guests attended several panels and training seminars on Thursday, including one on how to mobilize young voters by ``keeping it positive not partisan.'' They were told the only demographic President Bush lost to Sen. John Kerry in 2004 was those ages 18 to 29.

49. "I'd rather not answer that question."
A delegate from Florida, 27-year-old David Fletcher, said he participates in the Young Republicans because he thinks it's important for young people to get involved in politics.

But while Fletcher said he fully supports the war in Iraq, he said he has not enlisted and doesn't have plans to enlist.

When asked why, he said, "I'd rather not answer that question."

Pentagon representatives have recently said that recruiting is the most challenging it has been in decades.

Yeah, I bet you don't want to answer that question, because the answer is that you're a hypocritical chickenhawk coward who thinks that only poor, dark-skinned people are supposed to go overseas to fight and die for your pet causes, you sick bastard!

Sure, it's "Honoring the Fallen" this week...
But it hasn't been long since the motto was, "Join Us Now or Work For Us Later."

These sleazeballs are a good argument for the draft: there's no reason why the poor should go die for this lot.

All branches of the military have experienced recruiting shortfalls for active and reserve troops except the Air Force Reserve, according to the Defense Department Web site.

24. You know what's really sad?
Many of our young military men and women, although they may not identifing themsleves as a republican, voted for bush. Bush gave them pay raises. In the military, there is a general perception that the right speaks for their interests. They see the flag wavers when they leave or when they come back--like flag waving ever saved a life. Some of those are in combat as we speak, and some of them are dying and being injured--right now. And those little right wing idiots run around and think they speak for them. We, who know the war is illegal and morally wrong, who want our soldiers to come home alive and uninjured, our voice isn't as strong in the military. In fact it's beyond sad, it's sick, sick, sick. Every one of those little idiots needs to sign up.

Give the frontline soldier a little raise to keep the hoo-raws going so chimpy looks good in front of the troops, then take it away when they get injured or killed, hide the caskets, starve the VA, cut medical benefits, make them pay for their own food and transportation. Yeah, repugs support the troops-not.

27. Republicans only use our troops for their own profit. The
only reason they wave the flag and support the war because they fully understand that it makes them more money.

Republicans won't admit it publicly, because they just love those war profits, but they think anyone that joins the military is a fool.

They know that it is almost always poor people that enlist and fight wars, and they encourage our troops to go fight and die, "patting them on the back" and saying, "go get 'em tiger!", but all the while they are secretly laughing at our troops and mocking them while they sit behind the wheel of the Mercedes or BMW that were paid for in war profits and the blood of American soldiers.

Young republicans would never think of enlisting in the military; they know that the war is pure profitmaking bullshit but they desperately want to keep it going because they know that it is paying for their McMansions.

It is so very sad that our poor troops have to fight and die for these greedy, bloodthirsty little weasels that mock them and use them for their cannonfodder.

Fuck every phony chickenshit one of these republicans, and fuck their phony yellow ribbon stickers too.

31. Vivian Lee

I've posted her response before but it's such a classic; just like Cheney's " I had better things to do ". What is galling is that they are so upfront w/ their arrogant attempts to cover up their cowardice!

"Frankly, I want to be a politician. I'd like to survive to see that," said Vivian Lee, 17, a war supporter visiting the convention from Los Angeles,

Lee said she supports the war but would volunteer only if the United States faced a dire troop shortage or "if there's another Sept. 11."

"As long as there's a steady stream of volunteers, I don't see why I necessarily should volunteer," said Lee, who has a cousin deployed in the Middle East.

34. Anyone ever hear the Dead Kennedys song "When Ya Get Drafted"?
Seems very appropriate for the occasion:

Are you believing the morning papers?
War is coming back in style
There's generals here, advisors there
And Russians nibbling everywhere
The chessboard's filling up with red
We make more profits when we blow off their heads

Economy is looking bad
Let's start another war when ya get drafted
Fan the fires of racist hatred
We want total war when ya get drafted

Drooling fingers
Panic buttons
Playing with missiles like they're toys
There's easy money, easy jobs
Especially when you build the bombs
That blow big cities off the map
Just guess who profits when we build 'em back up
Yeah, what Big Business wants Big Business gets

It wants a war when ya get drafted
Trilateral Commission goonies laugh
and scheme for more when ya get drafted
Call the Army!
Call the Navy!
Stocked with kids from slums when ya get drafted
If you can't afford a slick attorney
We might make you a spy

Forget your demonstrations
Kids today sit on their ass when ya get drafted
Just a six-pack
And you're happy
We're prepared
For when ya get drafted

They grow up being intolerant neo-nazis in most cases. When children grow up having everything they want, without having to work for it, most will invariably turn out to be aggressive, selfish, and irresponsible.
A prime example is the arrogant president.
