Iraq rejects peacekeepers from neighboring countries..(Turkey)
PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia (AP)

Iraq's U.S.-appointed governing council sought support from Muslim countries Saturday, but objected to the deployment of peacekeepers from the sole Islamic nation that has consented to send them without a U.N. mandate, Turkey.

''We don't like to have any peacekeeping troops from neighboring countries, because it might cause problems inside Iraq,'' said Riyadh al- Fadli, a senior Iraqi Foreign Ministry official. ''The situation now in Iraq is very sensitive.''

Al-Fadli was speaking for the Iraqi council at talks paving the way for next week's summit of leaders of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference.

Iraq's status under U.S. occupation threatens to be a divisive issue during the meetings. ---

1. The bosses in Washitgton MUST be asking themselves
"who are these guys working for anyway?". It would appear that the US can't even coordinate the activity of this "employee" council with it's own foreign policy. Bremer seems not have much of a grip on things does he?
