Malaysian authorities today charged 68 Burmese nationals who held a peaceful pro-democracy protest in front of the Myanmar (Burma) embassy to mark the 60th birthday of their detained iconic leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
66 of the protesters were charged before the magistrate's court of Kualar Lumpur with various offences under the Immigration Act and for illegal assembly and two of the protesters were brought to the Kuala Lumpur juvenile court to hear similar charges, Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) reported.
All of the cases are to be heard on July 26.
Out of the 68 protesters, 62 were brought before the magistrate's court of Kuala Lumpur and charged with illegal assembly and failure to obey a dispersal order by the police. <snip>
