Blumenthal proposes banning pot-flavored candy

HARTFORD, Conn. -- A lollipop flavored with hemp to taste like marijuana is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of some state officials.

Though the candy's wrapper boasts it is "highly addictive," it doesn't include the chemical that creates a drug-induced high. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said he wants to propose legislation to ban the candy.

"They send a perilous and pernicious message that marijuana is fun and commonplace. They should go the same way of candy cigarettes: They should be banned," he said.

The lollipops have created controversy elsewhere. Chicago's City Council passed a law banning the sale of the candy. A New York City councilwoman wants to hold hearings on the candy, and a suburb in Atlanta passed a resolution opposing them.

Why would anyone want to suck on a lollipop that tastes like pot? Uck! Especially if it doesn't even get you high, why bother? Besides, doesn't this AG have anything better to do, like maybe investigate corrupt government officials. I hear there's at least a couple in CT.

2. Addictive candy?

That's worse than real marijuana, which is not an addictive drug. So since sugar, and other things are not only advertised but proven to be addictive, shouldn't they be banned also? Pot flavored candy sounds awful anyway. Gimme me fruit flavors any day.
