Santorum Prevails in Pa. Tuition Dispute
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A state education official sided with Sen. Rick Santorum in a dispute over funding for his children's education, saying a Pennsylvania school district did not file its request for a refund in a timely manner.

Santorum's five school-age children attended an Internet-based charter school that was part of the Penn Hills School District, but withdrew them in November when district officials questioned why they were paying to educate the children, who lived primarily in Virginia.

In an opinion released Monday, a hearing officer recommended that the state education secretary dismiss the district's request for a refund, because it did not file objections in a timely manner, Education Department spokesman Brian Christopher said.

Erin Vecchio, a school board member who is also head of the local Democratic committee, said in November that the district had paid about $100,000 for the Santorums' children to attend the Midland-based cyber school since 2001.

18. O.K., I know this sounds incredibly shallow . . .

but couldn't Karen Santorum fix herself up a little? I mean, she looks like Ricky's mother. Is he that insecure that he wouldn't allow her to spend a little money on herself? Most Senator's and Congressman's wives don't look dowdy. Her husband's representing that state, for crying out loud.

Judge Marjorie Rendell, the First Lady of Pennsylvania, is just as accomplished (if not more so) than Karen Santorum. She's charming, intelligent, and one of the most beautiful woman in The Keystone State. She is also representing Pennsylvania in her own way, and she doesn't look like a frump:

5. Take it to court
They applied as soon as they found out about the scam. Most, but not all, laws of that sort start the clock ticking AFTER you find out about the scam. For instance, if you got a huge but illegal tax check in 1989, don't think that they can't come after you to get it back.

8. Karen Santorum is a nurse and attorney and published author
of a couple of religiously correct books. They should have done the right thing and repaid the basically blue collar school district where they own their rental property/token legal residence. But Senator.Women-Should-Stay-Home-With-Their-Children-And - Not - Work has no problem defrauding a lot of hard-working, mostly Democrat taxpayers and thereby reducing the money available/quality of education in a school district where usually both parents have to work just to get by.

She's getting a little old to have children - at her age it's a risk women may chose to take if they have not yet had kids. But that is not the case with Santorums -they already have 5. And if they can't afford to pay for their schooling, they certainly shouldn't be having another.

He is in with Patrick Henry College, the fundy/conservative/Christo-facist college which is right down the road from me. From the New Yorker article on Patrick Henry College:

Of the school’s sixty-one graduates through the class of 2004, two have jobs in the White House; six are on the staffs of conservative members of Congress; eight are in federal agencies; and one helps Senator Rick Santorum, of Pennsylvania, and his wife, Karen, homeschool their six children.

21. I really wonder
if he wants to get re-elected here.

Or if he is not about it because he knows he can't lose...or just stupid...or both.

My wife teaches at that struggling school district...Santorum should be ashamed as a self proclaimed 'compassionate' conservative for stealing from it. Of coarse, they are probably going to say the district is struggling because of the well deserved contract the Teacher's Union got that brings them closer to being in line with other districts in the area over the next few years...wait and see.

22. They live in an absolutely fantastic school district in Virginia.
There's no reason (if he wanted his family close to him) that these kids couldn't have been enrolled right in Loudoun County Public Schools.
