House, Senate chairmen disagree on Patriot Act


CAPITOL HILL (AP) - President Bush is again pushing Congress to make permanent the expiring provisions of the Patriot Act, the nation's premier anti-terrorism law.

Bush says the terrorist threats against the U-S won't expire at the end of this year, and neither should the Patriot Act.

But House and Senate leaders disagree on making the provisions permanent.

House Judiciary Committee chairman James Sensenbrenner plans to push through legislation tomorrow that would eliminate all expiration dates, making the Patriot Act permanent.

They're more like representatives of multinational corporations than representatives of actual people. The only "people" whose votes count are juridical persons.

5. Polls say Americans do not want this

The public is overwhelmingly against the renewal of the "16 provisions" of the Patriot Act, but of course, the press will not include that fact with this story because it would be obvious that our representative government no longer represents the people.

Instead they provide no information, giving us the illusion that at least half of us fervently want to lose our civil rights and live in a police state.

A lot of these are minor polls, but they all pretty much say the same thing: Americans do NOT want the Patriot Act expanded and want to see the 16 provisions sunset.

There have been more polls. I have not seen one of them recently that had tepid support for the renewal of the Patriot act....all of them say that Americans are tired of having their civil liberties kicked around like a football.
