Judge Denies New Ebbers Trial; Sentencing Wed. (WorldCom)
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162284,00.html

NEW YORK — A federal judge on Tuesday denied a bid by former WorldCom (search) CEO Bernard Ebbers (search) for a new trial, paving the way for him to be sentenced Wednesday in the record $11 billion fraud.

Ebbers had argued, among other reasons, that the judge or prosecutors should have granted immunity to three witnesses that Ebbers contends could have helped clear him of charges related to the fraud.

"I find that none of these new grounds requires a new trial," Judge Barbara Jones wrote in a ruling made public Tuesday

The ruling by Jones means Ebbers' sentencing hearing will go forward Wednesday morning.

3. GOOD!
I hope they throw the book at this lying cheating scum.

THANK GOD! The company I work for didn't merge with these crooks.
We are so much better for it.

The thing that finally pushed me over the edge with Ebbers, is as soon as he got fired and indicted, what did he do?

He went back to Mississippi and started his own Bible Study class.

There is nothing like the prospect of an impending jail sentence to put the fear of God back in yer ass.

Throw the book at him Judge Jones!

5. I know Bernie personally.
He lives nearby. He's an asshole who is hated here, not just because of WorldCom.

I hope he gets plenty of time to think about ALL the people he has harmed in so many ways.

7. Back when he could afford to do so...
He bought a bus for a group of men and women who do mission work around the United States--they build churches for people who don't have the money to hire contractors. They are a non profit with their own board of directors.

So, Bernie bought them a bus, and then began to dictate to the group to where they should travel and what they should build. The board of directors became frustrated with him, because they realized that the only reason he bought the bus for them was to be perceived as some kind of generous philanthropist, and to control the group. They gave the bus back and sent Bernie packing.

And that's just one example of his nature. I know more, but I'll keep it to myself...but suffice it to say that he's conducted shady business with Brookhaven residents, causing some of them to have their own legal problems, and causing at least one man to lose a business that he had worked his whole life to establish.

Yeah, Bernie doesn't have a huge fan club here. Very few defenders.

8. Sometimes, it does all work out in the end, doesn't it?
I was surprised "Bernie" received the back of the judge's hand across the chops, so to speak, but from what you've related, it's been a long time coming.
