Rove Benefit Stirs Controversy
--------------------
Jul 13, 2005 10:00 am US/Eastern
--------------------
Democrats are challenging Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele to cancel a fundraiser later this month with Karl Rove.

The White House deputy chief of staff is under fire after the surfacing of a new e-mail about his possible role in leaking information two years ago about a CIA officer.

A spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee says it's an opportunity for Steele to show what he's made of, and decide whether Rove reflects his values and Maryland's values.

But a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee says there's no reason to cancel the event.

Steele has not committed himself to a Senate race next year, but set up an exploratory committee to help him make a decision. He's under pressure from national and state party officials to run for the seat that will come open with the retirement of Democratic Senator Paul Sarbanes.

1. Let him have it!
That'll squash any chance of him running for the senate seat!

3. Let him hold the fundraiser, by all means
And get a few dozen demonstrators out front to picket and ask Steele why he's consorting with such a low-life character.

4. Photos of Steele and Rove would make for a great ad.

If Rove gets fired, he will go back to campaign consulting. So from here on out, if he works a campaign, we will make it an issue.

6. Call for them to cancel the event. Hope they go through with it.
Then hit them for highlighting a traitor as the centerpiece of their event.
