Pentagon Misses Deadline for Required Iraq Report
Jul 14 - This past weekend, the Pentagon failed to provide Congress a required report on security and political conditions in Iraq and an assessment of the military’s "strategies of success" in stabilizing the occupied country.

In a letter released Monday, United States Congressman Marty Meehan (D-Massachusetts) called on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to come before Congress and provide details on the training of Iraqi security forces and the continuing involvement of US troops in the war torn nation, as required by a provision of the emergency spending bill signed into law last May.

That act requires the Secretary of Defense to "develop and provide to the Congress a more comprehensive set of performance indicators and measures of stability and security in Iraq."

Nationally-syndicated columnist David Broder reported the existence of the clause on July 3, but the reminder was apparently not heeded. A section of the law calls for Rumsfeld to deliver to Congress an initial report within 60 days from the date of enactment and every 90 days thereafter.

1. Clearly, Rummy is running the Pentagon like a business -
like Enron, Worldcom, Halliburton . . .

2. Here's a link to a poll I conducted on whether the deadline would be met.
The deadline seems to have been missed with hardly anyone taking notice.

3. I remember your poll...
None of us had doubts that the deadline would be missed... it's good to see a report on it, though.

5. 1 joker did vote that the deadline would be met, 1 day after it was missed
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 01:00 PM by norml
But before the deadline had passed the poll results were 100% that it would not be met.

4. What, and be held accountable for something?
This administration is not accountable for ANYTHING, you know that!

Congress is acting like they're supposed to have some kind of over-sight or something. :silly: Yeah, right!

10. This is not news to us. The whole Iraq fiasco
is a complete and utter failure.......except for Halliburton, Kellogg Brown & Root, etc.

I recall RumsFailed, in congressional testimony about 2 weeks ago. Someone asked him if the security situation in Iraq has improved.

"No, not really" was RumsFool's reply.

Nothing new here.:smoke:
