Straw Attacks ID Cards
STRAW ATTACKS ID CARDS

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has attacked the Government's plan to introduce compulsory identity cards.

Leaked documents show Mr Straw believes the ID card proposal is "flawed".

The scheme is the brainchild of Home Secretary David Blunkett and has the backing of Tony Blair.

In a six-page letter, Mr Straw says: "The potential for a large-scale debacle which harms the government is great," Mr Straw warned.

1. It's odd how in some ways Britain is more of a police state than
the U.S. I've heard there are limits on speech in some European countries, too.

2. What is the problem with ID cards?
To have one official, accepted ID card saves a lot of trouble. At the moment all sorts of documents are used as a substitute.

40 Pounds seems a little much though.
