CIA agent's husband says Rove pushed Plame story
By Sue Pleming
1 hour, 1 minute ago
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The husband of a CIA agent whose identity was exposed during the fierce debate over the Iraq war accused the White House on Thursday of being involved in a giant "cover-up" involving top aide Karl Rove

What this thing has been for the past two years has been a cover-up, a cover-up of the ... web of lies that underpin the justification for going to war in Iraq," said Plame's husband, Joseph Wilson, a career foreign service officer who served in the Clinton White House.

Wilson charged in another interview that Rove was actively promoting Novak's story about Plame in 2003, saying the White House deputy chief of staff declared Wilson's wife "fair game" in a telephone conversation with Chris Matthews, the host of NBC's political affairs program, "Hardball."

"He (Matthews) called me up as soon as he got off the phone," Wilson told CNN. "He called me up and he said: 'I just got off the phone with Karl Rove. He says your wife is fair game'. I know that Karl Rove was, in fact, engaged in pushing the Novak story."

it clear he didn't vote for him (I guess in 1992). And Wilson said his financial records indicate he donated both to W's and Gore's campaign's. The Repukes can't claim Wilson was a political Dem.

15. Exactly! They are trying to make him out to be a disgruntled Dem.,
He voted for Bush I instead of Clinton, and Gore instead of Bush II, and donated to both campaigns.

this country. I think they may have "picked on" the wrong man in their quest to discredit him.

From a 2003 CBS story: Wilson: From Envoy To Accuser
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/01/iraq/main576052.shtml

It was his next assignment that first gave Wilson a small place in the history books. From 1998 to 1991, he served as deputy chief of the U.S. mission in Baghdad. (Should read 1988, I believe.)

He was thrust into the role of acting ambassador when Iraq invaded Kuwait because April Glaspie, the actual ambassador, was out of the country at the time of the invasion.

During the long build-up to the Gulf war, Wilson "had almost daily shouting matches with his Iraqi counterparts," according to the Los Angeles Times. When the Iraqi Foreign Ministry posted a note threatening execution to diplomats who gave shelter to Western men who Saddam claimed were hostages, Wilson called the Ministry to ask if they intended to hang him. The Iraqi threat was retracted.

Eventually, Wilson was credited with negotiating the release of several hundred American hostages.

7. Thanks. I was wondering where the 'fair game' quote came from.
It's from Wilson quoting Matthews, who may have been quoting Rove. It certainly clears *that* up.

10. Whenever anyone has asked Wilson whether he thinks justice will be
served in the outing of his wife, he simply, succinctly answers "Yes." No hesitation, no doubt that ShrubCo will lie and threaten their way out, no worry that the "new" CIA will cover up. He appears to know with great certainty that there are plenty of CIA people feeling very BETRAYED by the people they are trusting their lives with, and that they have the ammo they need to make a case. After all, getting info on covert government operations is what they do.

Even when BushCo appeared completely untouchable, Wilson was resolute. This always struck me.
