Ten suicide bombs in Iraqi capital, 25 dead
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Ten suicide car bombers exploded in a series of apparently coordinated attacks across the Iraqi capital on Friday, killing at least 25 people and wounding more than 100, police sources said.

All appeared to target U.S. or Iraqi security forces, police said. Reuters journalists saw the aftermath of five. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for those, before police reported a further five suicide car bomb attacks late in the day.

They followed an abortive triple suicide attack on Baghdad's government compound on Thursday and a strike close to a U.S. patrol that killed 27, many of them children, a day earlier.

On Friday, the Muslim day of prayer, streets are generally quieter, which may have held down the casualty toll.

10. 25 dead including the bombers?
1.5 victims per bomb? Sounds like people are getting much cannier about avoiding them.

14. That is a pretty poor kill ratio
I have to wonder what they are trying to accomplish by blowing themselves up as opposed to using remote-control bombs or simply shooting people at random.

I thought one of the tenets of Islam is that people who commit suicide can't get into Paradise.

13. You wonder where they get all the suicide bombers from
I don't know if anyone has kept a running count, but it must be in the hundreds by now. I suppose Bush and company assume they will run out of volunteers eventually. But, that may take a long time, given that Bushco's very behavior seems to be motivating plenty of recruits.

16. There has been hundreds of suicide bombers so far
And, if Bush wants to know where they come from he should ask his Saudi friends. They are exporting their problem so they don't have to deal with them.

17. Car Bombs and Explosions Kill 30 in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Suicide car bombs and explosions rocked wide areas of the Iraqi capital Friday, targeting U.S. and Iraqi security forces and killing at least 30 people. Two U.S. Marines died in a blast near the Jordanian border.

At least 111 people, including seven American soldiers, were wounded in the bombings — at least seven of them suicide attacks. One of the suicide bombings occurred after sundown on a bridge over the Tigris River near the home of President Jalal Talabani.

Four security guards were killed and nine people were wounded in that attack. Talabani was at home at the time, aides said, but the target may have been a U.S. convoy.

The wave of attacks, which began at midmorning and persisted after nightfall, marked an escalation in car bombings in Baghdad after a six-week U.S.-Iraqi military offensive sharply reduced their numbers since May.
