Iraqi PM in landmark Iran visit

For decades the two countries had no diplomatic relations, but now they are rapidly becoming friends, to the consternation of the Americans.

The Iranian press says this the biggest Iraqi delegation to visit in 40 years.

Iranian television says 12 ministers will accompany Mr Jaafari. Some newspapers say it will only be nine.

Unprecedented

According to reports, the two countries will discuss economic issues such as electricity, energy and water, as well as security, particularly control of the border and the presence of armed Iranian dissidents on Iraqi soil.

It means Iran recognizes the Iraqi government and the Iraqi government is at least trying to stand on its own.

Bush may not like it, but it's probably to his benefit too.
