Britain looks to extend war on terror
First funeral service for victim of London bombings held

Sunday, July 17, 2005; Posted: 6:11 p.m. EDT (22:11 GMT)

(CNN) -- As the first funeral for a victim of the London bombings was held Sunday, British politicians were looking to expand the nation's battle against terrorism both at home and abroad.

Home Secretary Peter Clarke is expected to discuss additional antiterrorist legislation with opposition leaders in the next few days.

(snip)

Even though all the suspects were native brits, they're going world-wide, with their own Patriot act to boot.

1. Like a Virus
These assholes are playing right into the terrorists hands. Terrorists incite terror, no? Was it effective in curtailing people's freedoms? Yup....

3. To my mates in Britain:
This rhetoric is sounding eerily familiar. Be afraid, be very afraid! Don't let Tony BLIAR get away with it. Get out into the streets and stop it now!

5. Sage advice!
"The War On Terror", albeit, the Wrong WAr in the Wrong Place At The Wrong Time..is what precipitated this in the first place.

No matter who did it.

6. Would it be too much not to trust CNN's spin?
Wouldn't it make sense to wait and see what they actually propose and then comment on it?

7. "illegal to indirectly incite terrorism"
"Possible measures to be debated include a law that would make it illegal to indirectly incite terrorism, a proposal seen as a way to rein in religious leaders who praise suicide bombers."

I have a feeling that might include all anti-war activities because Blair says Iraq is the central front in the War on Terror so anyone who opposes it must be in favor of terror. :o

13. My guess is no dissent will be allowed if they get their way.
That's why I started the thread yesterday about Blair being pure evil. I could see the justification for total quashing of dissent in his words about the London bombing.

12. Direct incitement to acts of terrorism in the UK is already illegal
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 06:03 PM by fedsron2us
However, the original law was so badly drafted that it does not cover promoting acts of terrorism committed abroad. This failure has meant that a lot of international groups which have used terrorism as part of their agenda such as the Tamil Tigers have been able to run their international operations out of Britain. This one of the reasons the UK has not been particularly popular with a lot of other governments around the world and has led its capital being described as 'Londonistan'. I expect this loophole will be closed.
