Good News - Twins Are Separated in Stable Condition
Twin Boys Joined at Head Are Separated
By DENISE GRADY

Published: October 13, 2003

wo-year-old twin brothers from Egypt, joined at the head, were separated yesterday during 30 hours of surgery at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Surgeons had spent more than a year planning and preparing for the operation, which required a medical team of 60 people working in shifts.

The twins, Mohamed and Ahmed Ibrahim, were in stable condition, the hospital reported, and a spokesman said the surgery had gone smoothly, without complications or unexpected problems.

The twins will be in a medically induced coma for days, and the true measure of success will not be taken until they wake up and doctors find out whether they are alert and able to move their arms and legs.

I'm so happy for them and their parents.

1. Great news!
Difficult, difficult surgery. Even ten years ago the odds for dual survival were slim.

3. Cheers to the surgical team
I hope the operation keeps going well. I looked at the diagrams of their connected brains, and it got my mind reeling. Even to attempt this operation means the surgeons have brass balls and unobtanium ovaries respectively.
