Bush Holds 5th Grand Dinner of Presidency
Bush Holds 5th Grand Dinner of Presidency
By DARLENE SUPERVILLE, Associated Press Writer

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

(07-19) 00:47 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

President Bush, famously unimpressed with the pomp and pageantry of the presidency, is nonetheless a Texan who appreciates big things as well as a politician who can count votes.

And so it was that 134 guests of Bush and his wife, Laura, gathered Monday evening at the White House to recognize the U.S. relationship with the biggest democracy in the world.

The all-out gala honoring India and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was a much-anticipated return to a grand, black-tie dinner at the White House, the first in nearly two years.

"This, of course, is the largest democracy on the face of the Earth," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld explained to reporters as they gathered to watch the arrival of the usual mix of dinner guests — Cabinet members, administration officials, members of Congress, representatives of the Indian government and corporate tycoons.

Someone should have told the reporter she should NOT drink before filing her story. I think she overdid it.

A dinner with more dummies like herself.

Never mind, that would mean her mind WAS on it in the first place.

6. The poor WH chefs have only had 5 gala dinners to cook for?
WTF have * and Pickles been doing all this time? I suppose entertaining heads of state has not been high on the list. I hope that he didn't embarrass us too badly at the dinner. Lord knows how badly he mangled the names of the Indian guests. :(

7. They still haven't replaced the chef they fired
for being unable to "satisfy the first lady's stylistic requirements," namely tacos and such. They must have hired a rent-a-chef for this dinner.

12. What the hell do the Bu$hes eat? Goddamn Taco Bell?
If I was president and had access to the most amazing chefs, I would eat like a queen every day! I love gourmet food. I mean that would be one of the MAJOR good things about being President: great food cooked by your own kitchen of professional chefs.

:grr: * is such a cultural embarrassment. :(

11. 5 dinners, but none for Canada - - oh well
.
.
.

From the posted Article:

The event was only the fifth such dinner of Bush's presidency and the first of his second term.

His previous dinners were for the leaders of Mexico, just days before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001; Poland, in July 2002, and the Philippines and Kenya, in May and October of 2003.

In contrast, Bush's immediate predecessor, President Clinton, hosted 29 state dinners during his eight years in office. Bush's father, the first President Bush, held more than two dozen such events during his single term in office, and President Reagan held 57 state dinners during his two terms.

In celebrating the relationship between the United States and India, Bush raised a glass to "two nations bound by our common interests," including the fight against global terrorism.

Umm - "two nations bound by our common interests,"

that wouldn't have anything ta do with Nukes, now would it?
