Turkey seeks tighter Iraq borders to halt attacks (From Kurds)
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L19110846.htm

ISTANBUL, July 19 (Reuters) - Turkey called on Tuesday for Iraq and its neighbours to tighten border security as Ankara tries to curb an upsurge in Kurdish guerrilla violence over the past year. Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu said Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) guerrillas armed with explosives were crossing the border from Iraq and staging sabotage attacks in Turkey.

"Particularly in the last year Turkey has been exposed to increased attacks from elements of the PKK terror group which shelters in northern Iraq," Aksu told his counterparts from across the region at a meeting in Istanbul.

Several thousand PKK rebels are believed to be holed up in the mountains of northern Iraq and cross the border regularly.

Turkey believes the PKK are behind bombings on tourist targets in western Turkey this month. A bomb ripped apart a minibus packed with tourists in the Aegean resort of Kusadasi on Saturday, killing five people and injuring 13.
