UK, Spain to Propose Amended U.N. Iraq Resolution

LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) - Britain and Spain will propose an amended U.N. resolution on the future of Iraq on Monday aimed at winning wider international support for peacekeeping and reconstruction efforts, EU diplomats said.

They said British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw told his EU colleagues at a meeting in Luxembourg that the resolution would be presented in New York later in the day. France, Russia and Germany have demanded a clearer timetable for handing back power to the Iraqi people and a stronger role for the United Nations.
