U.S. Soldier Killed in Iraqi Town of Tikrit
2nd death in less than 24 hours:

TIKRIT, Iraq (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in the Iraqi town of Tikrit Monday, the U.S. military said

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division said two other soldiers were slightly wounded when guerrillas attacked a patrol of Bradley fighting vehicles in the home town of ousted President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites). "The patrol was hit by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade)," Maj. Josslyn Aberle said.

The attack brought to 96 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in attacks in Iraq (news - web sites) since President Bush (news - web sites) declared major combat operations over on May 1 after the war that deposed Saddam.

SNIP:

A U.S. soldier was killed in a land mine blast late Sunday in the northern oil town of Baiji. In the south, four British soldiers were slightly wounded Monday morning in three roadside bomb attacks in the city of Basra

1. "closing in on Saddam"

I was just watching MSNBC and they're talking about how US forves are very closing to getting him.

Does it matter at this point? Will bush get a huge jump if they capture Sadamm now, or will it be good news gone by the end of the week.
You never hear about his sons anymore.

2. This is an old trick
This is about the fourth or fifth time, they've been close.
Wake me up when they get him.

3. it's all spin
don't believe a word of it. If Saddam is in Syria then we'll never capture him.

the only reason his sons were killed is because they were morons and took pride in the part they were able to drive around town under the noses of US troops for weeks and not get captured, eventually it caugh up to them.

5. Positively Orwellian.
"We're closing in" = "The war is within measurable distance of victory."

6. Finding Saddam is the last thing they want
to do right now. That would give a green light to the factions to start the civil war, and give credibility to the Shia argument that the job is done now get out.
