Only 50 percent following Rove flap (Pew Poll)
<<SNIP>>
http://news.webindia123.com/news/showdetails.asp?id=99130&cat=World

Poll: Only 50 percent following Rove flap:-

A Pew Research Center poll says only 50 percent of the public is closely following reports on White House adviser Karl Rove and the leak about a CIA agent.

But the survey found 58 percent of those closely following the developments and 39 percent of the general public feel Rove should resign because of reports he may have leaked classified information about the uncover agent in violation of federal law.

The poll said Republican support for Rove is tepid, with 42 percent of respondents declining to offer an opinion. Thirty-nine percent said he should not resign.

3. I totally agree
the headline is spinning it with a negative connotation, but 50% is pretty significant! Plus check out the Repubs stance....

2. Only? Considering how little the "rove flap" has been echoed by the CM
(Corporate Media) that's pretty remarkable.

4. That's actually pretty high at this point of the investigation!
If I remember right, most Pubs were paying much less attention to the Nixon mess at the early stages.

I know this has been going on for 2 years, but it's only become a real support of wrongdoing since The Time release of it's emails and Cooper appearing on a bunch of talk shows. That's only been in the last few weeks. I think it's a better public response than I would have expected this soon.

6. Why "only" (besides the positive GOP spin reinforcement?
50% paying attention to the possibility that this guy committed a crime is substantial. Its more than understood that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 and had no WMD for instance.

How many follow Survivor? American Idol ? Less than that I'd bet. There may be hope for us yet.

12. Alternative hypothesis:
Though I had the same immediate reaction to the headline as you, it occured to me: what's the baseline? If you're comparing the number of people following Rove/Plame with the number of people following Michael Jackson or the latest missing white girl, then perhaps the adjective "only" is appropriate. Just an alternative hypothesis.

14. That's great!
Considering how the domesticated media (Ray McGovern's phrase, not mine) has sat on this, and considering that many conservatives will answer this question "no" in an effort to quash the whole thing, that's a hell of a lot of people who ARE paying attention.

I'm actually quite surprised. Maybe people are beginning to realize that current politics are more important than they have been in years.

18. 50% "closely" following. How many are noticing, though?
I follow it very closely (because I hate traitors). My friends are aware of it, but they're not following it "closely." They have definitely taken notice of it, though.

19. Rove Flap & the public!!!
No wonder Shrub won the second term. Public doesn't care a damn about what's going on in Washington. As long as people have their basic needs met,the Gov't can do anything it please. The proof that the Public doesn't care can be found in what commuters do on their way to work by trains or buses.Overwhelmimgly, they read the Sports section first and in many cases that's the only section they read. And this the case with the undereducated as well as the educated and higher-ups on the Corporate ladders.

23. You have to know this is a fraud when 2 days ago this was the story
Most Say Rove Should Lose Job if He Leaked Classified Information
Analysis by GARY LANGER
Jul. 18, 2005 - Just a quarter of Americans think the White House is fully cooperating in the federal investigation of the leak of a CIA operative's identity, a number that's declined sharply since the investigation began. And three-quarters say that if presidential adviser Karl Rove was responsible for leaking classified information, it should cost him his job.

Skepticism about the administration's cooperation has jumped. As the initial investigation began in September 2003, nearly half the public, 47 percent, believed the White House was fully cooperating. That fell to 39 percent a few weeks later, and it's lower still, 25 percent, in this new ABC News poll.

This view is highly partisan; barely over a tenth of Democrats and just a quarter of independents think the White House is fully cooperating. That grows to 47 percent of Republicans -- much higher, but still under half in the president's own party. And doubt about the administration's cooperation has grown as much among Republicans -- by 22 points since September 2003 -- as it has among others.
