'We've been having several Londons a day in Iraq'
http://breakingnews.iol.ie/news/story.asp?j=150265040&p=y5xz65746

Iraq has asked the UN Security Council to condemn the recent spate of bombings and attacks.

“Unfortunately, we’ve been having several Londons a day in Iraq for some time,” Iraq’s deputy UN ambassador Fesial al-Istrabadi said yesterday, referring to the bombing or attempted bombing of three tube trains and a bus twice in the past two weeks.

Hours after the first attacks on July 7, which killed 52 people and four suspected suicide bombers, the Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the attacks and demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Al-Istrabadi said he believes “there is great will on the part of the Security Council to acknowledge the horror that the people of Iraq have been living through – and in fact condemn it.”

He cited the nearly 100 people killed in Saturday’s massive bombing in Musayyib, 40 miles north of Baghdad, and other attacks including the July 13 car bomb in Baghdad that killed 27 Iraqis and one American soldier.

2. C'mon, now - apples and oranges!
Iraqis aren't white, most of them aren't Christian, and they don't speak English. They have to know that it just isn't the same...

:sarcasm: (though I hope it wasn't necessary)...

3. Several Londons a day...and
One 9/11 every few months.

Funny, Iraq didn't have all these problems before bush invaded, eh?

Now, even with the presence of a hundred thousand armed policemen (US soldiers) Iraq is in the Worst shape ever. Just another W in the bush column.

6. This was on my mind as soon as I heard about 7/7...
and I am sure I am not alone in that. Horror at London and guilt and grief and anger at the thought that it seems to happen every single day in Iraq.

7. How come we never hear of any reports of the stiff-upper lips of Iraqis?

By watching our cable news one would assume that the Iraqis are a bunch of whiners or something.

8. I'm so grateful to see that article.
I didn't want to speak out on this while the attack in London was still fresh, as it would have seemed insensitive. But.. I wondered, as Iraq suffered even more deadly suicide bombs in the days after the London attacks, why no one was pledging to stand with Iraq, why the Cable news was not covering it 24/7. It's not to take away from the grief and pain of the Londoners, but merely a question as to why some lives are apparently more important than others.

10. Points up the absurd fallacy and vacuous thinking of the "Fight them
over there so we won't have to fight the over here".

Not only does that it not make sense, (we pay for the fight with our lives, resources and way of life) but the fight WILL move over here. It WILL touch us. It will grow like a cancerous thing, enveloping all who are touched by in a cloud of hate, darkness and death.

Every Repub. that I talk to about Iraq will tell me that very statement - "Fight them over there so we won't have to fight them over here" and "Saddam has/had weapons of mass destruction." My sad conclusion is that many people are selfish and uncaring or don't bother to think about what they are saying. Don't they hear reports of the atrocities in Iraq? And that includes our troops. It boggles my mind. Of course Iraq has become a training ground for getting the Westerner on their turf. I sometimes feel that people truly don't care about our soldiers, after all, didn't they volunteer, which is another Repub. comment. Right, they volunteered but not for a war based on lies and certainly not a war that has nothing to do with protecting this country. Sheesh!

11. Pentagon: "We don't do body counts."
And Iraq doesn't have CCTV cameras all over the place, or anything resembling the famous Scotland Yard or the intriguing MI-5, and US has bombed Baghdad newsroom and killed Iraqi journalists, so Iraq is shit out of luck in the getting the story out about bombs killing people department.

12. how can the report get away with
only 25,000 civilian deaths in Iraq? Every day there are dozens of deaths. IMPEACH BUSH this is ALL his fault. I wonder if he will beg for mercy because he is mentally ill like the little puke in NY did?

16. Has anyone wondered about these Iraqi "car bombs"?
They happen like several times a week.
They always target Iraqis, not americans.
Who are these hundreds of people willing to commit suicide, just in order to kill and injure dozens of their fellow iraqis?
And on top of all that, the bombings only further extend the Occupation, becuase they are aimed at the fledgling Iraqi police!
It doesn't add up. Iraqi blowing themselves up every day just to kill their fellow Iraqis, and the net result happens to be an extended occupation, which is exactly what the Military Industrial Complex wants!
