GOP candidate calls for impeachment

A Congressional candidate who wants to impeach President Bush insists he can win the Republican primary.

Dennis Morrisseau, 62, of West Pawlet, plans to seek the Republican nomination to run for U.S. House of Representatives. The seat is being vacated by Rep. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., who plans a run for the U.S. Senate.

A central part of his platform, Morrisseau said, will be bringing articles of impeachment against Bush.

....

Morrisseau said he considers himself more of a Republican than the president, and he thinks a lot of Vermont Republicans agree with him.
"This leadership isn't very Republican and I don't think it's very popular with Vermont Republicans," he said. "Republicans in this state tend to be mind-your-own-business people, keep taxes low and government small."

I thought they were an extinct species, having been slowly overrun by the neo-cons.

I thought they'd been bludgeoned into extinction by the far right.

6. Well, with the typical far-right hatred of breeding in all forms
it will be very hard to rehabilitate the species and build up native populations again.

7. Vermont is geographically small enough
That Morrissey won't have to fly in small planes, which is good news.

And the fact that he's proclaiming himself to be a "real" Republican might just give some other Republicans permission to speak out loud against the Bush Crime Family.

9. Maybe it's a ploy
to get us Dems to support his campaign. It might be a good idea as he is likely to repeat his impeachment goal throughout his campaign. A good case of my enemy's enemy is my friend?

10. Hope he wisely ditches the Rethug party once he gets elected like Jeffords
He should learn from both Sanders and Jeffords that being an independent in Vermont is not a penalty there. He sounds like he's got decent enough values. Stay away from Tom Delay "taps on the shoulder" sir!

13. They want to get Sanders on record...
...as supporting the same, then hammer him with it.

The whole point of the Clinton impeachment was not to impeach Clinton.
It was to destroy impeachment itself.

The point was to make sure that henceforth anybody proposing impeachment looked radical, or foolish, or a complete party hack.

Once impeachment was blunted as a weapon then it would be safe to, say, gin up a war out of whole cloth.

If you want to knock over a jeweler's, it's wise to disconnect the alarm first.

If you want to commit impeachable offenses, it's wise to disconnect the impeachment.

20. I'd be suprised if Sanders wasn't already on record supporting impeachment
Bernie Sanders is a no-bullshit strong liberal. He's an Independent and not a Democrat because he's to the left of most Democrats. And I'd be shocked if he hasn't already called for *'s impeachment.

34. I have heard this arg before. Why does it not make republicans
look like radical foolish party hacks? Why does it imply impeachment is disabled and carries no stigma or real consequences?

I am not sure I understand the logic behind it. It seems more like an emotional appeal.

Impeachment is a real tool to be used to remove a president or justice from office once they have been shown to have committed or conspired to commit crimes and or treason.

Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 10:07 AM by Rainscents
Once they get in, they'll vote with neo-cons on everything. However, voters from Vermont are very wise and if, Morrisseau broke his promise to the voters, he'll get voted out. Anyway, good for him to speak up!

90+ year old Gerald Ford.
80+ year old William Milliken

Mitt Romney's dad was a good republican.

I always liked Barry Goldwater, because he was a free-thinker who was not confined in his politics by ideology.

If the Michigan republican party was run by people of the same political stripe who ran it 30-40 years ago, I would probably be more of a swing voter.

I'm so old that I remember when the republicans were the liberals!

"Republicans in this state tend to be mind-your-own-business people, keep taxes low and government small."

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but isn't this the same sort of pap that Shrub pedalled before the 2000 election? Fiscal restraint, small government, protectionism, no foreign adventures, etc...

WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!

If it's Republican, it's NO FUCKING GOOD!!!

Please, do not be fooled.

They will lie their asses off to get elected, and then will get right in lockstep with the fascist program.

oxymoron. Of course, he still hasn't discovered that Republican administrations are NOT small government because they bloat the military, hide the bloat and hurt people suffering misfortune, but it's a start.
