More Americans Believe Iraq War Hurts Fight Against Terrorism Abid

WASHINGTON, D.C., Jul 22 (OneWorld) - Nearly half of Americans say the war in Iraq has hurt what the White House calls its ''war on terror''--the highest percentage since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003--according to a major new poll released Thursday in the immediate aftermath of the latest bomb attacks in London.

The survey, by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, also showed that 49 percent of respondents now believe that Washington should set a timetable for withdrawing from Iraq. President George W. Bush opposes such a move, as did 45 percent of the 1,502 American adults surveyed July 13-17.

Pew released the survey after the U.S. House of Representatives approved Wednesday a non-binding resolution opposing the early withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and declaring that setting a date for a troop pullout would encourage terrorists to ratchet up their operations.

The Pew findings were broadly consistent with those of a Gallup poll released before the fatal July 7 London bombings, suggesting that those incidents have had no significant impact on U.S. public opinion. No one was killed in yesterday's attacks.

2. 65% believe Bush has no clear plan to end Iraq war
A new low of 27 percent of the public--and only 23 percent of political independents--said they believe that Bush has a plan for bringing the Iraq war to a successful end. However, 64 percent said they now believe that Bush has no clear plan.

So there's *some* sensory function out there -- though a majority still don't see the Iraq war as detrimental to the fight against global terrorism. Idgits.

5. No thanks to Hillary, Biden, or Kerry.
The common sense of Americans is to be congratulated, especially at a time when Democrats are trying to *increase* troop deployments to Iraq.

When will we get a real opposition party instead of merely the opposing globe of "the same giant derriere"?

6. Duh. And that's been the plan ALL ALONG.
It's like Chris Rock says: "Man, they ain't gonna cure no AIDS. You don't make money off of CURIN' somethin'. You make money off of SELLIN' DRUGS!"

The "War On Terra" is a slogan to sell Snake Oil to the yokels. If the regime were somehow actually ABLE to stop Terra-ism, the political benefits of a scared-shitless population would vanish in a heartbeat! bu$hler's handlers would not be able to shred the Constitution and continue their massive wealth grab unless TERRA was constantly ABOUT TO STRIKE WITHOUT WARNING.

And Iraq Nam? Country Joe nailed that one years ago:

Come on Wall Street, don't be slow,
This war here has far to go.
Lotsa good money to be made,
Sellin' the Army the tools of the trade.

9. Treating it as something with a military solution...
"hurts" the fight against terrorism. It's a criminal problem, that should be dealt with as such. Rationally it's the domain of the CIA and FBI working in cooperation with foreign intelligence services like MI6 and RVS, and of counter-terrorist trained special forces where appropriate, but it's NOT a war.
