Carson to tell plans on Senate

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Brad Carson, D-Okla., scheduled news conferences in Tulsa and Oklahoma City Tuesday to discuss his plans to run for the U.S. Senate.

An advisory announcing the news conferences was distributed Monday under Carson's congressional campaign letterhead, with the addition of the tag: "United States Senate."

It included a campaign Web site, which was under construction.

"You can connect the dots," said Brad Luna, spokesman for the 2nd Congressional District representative.

Remember the disasterous 2002 elections? Oklahoma elected a Dem Gov in 2002.

Elected a Dem for Gov over a Repug Congressman who was a football star, no less.

In freaking Oklahoma!

8. Largent fared well in the Panhandle and in OKC/Tulsa

But Richardson "Naderzied" him. Here is how the state voted. Red is Democrats. Blue is Republicans.



Henry eked out a 7,000 win over Largent. For Carson to win he is going to have thrash the GOP candidate in rural, Eastern Oklahoma and run evenly in the SW part of the state. He is going to have to minimize his losses in the Tulsa/Oklahoma City area and the Panhandle.

well not hate, but Tulsans would be hard-pressed to vote for the mayor of OKC.

25. I've lived in Tulsa for 28 years

and it does vote Republican, however we had a Democratic mayor for 8 years and have had in the past Democratic congressmen. Also, Tulsa considers itself more sophisticated than other parts of Oklahoma. Just give us a good candidate, and wait and see.

Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys all but announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Monday as he picked up an endorsement and pledge of help from Sen. Jim Inhofe.

Rep. Ernest Istook, considered a leading Republican contender for the seat, announced Sunday he had decided not to run. Istook said he could not risk giving up his standing in the House, where he has served since his election in 1992.
Inhofe acknowledged that he had urged his fellow Republican not to run. He told Istook he should stay in the House because of his position and power as chairman of the Transportation and Treasury Appropriations Subcommittee.
"I said, `You really need to stay to where you are for the sake of Oklahoma,'" Inhofe said. "So yes, in that respect, I did encourage him not to run."

He's another DLC democrat and I don't really see him winning.

16. More about Carson

Three months ago while giving a speech to the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce Carson said, "I am the biggest Democratic supporter of President Bush in Congress today."

I was there and I heard him say that. It was reported in the Tulsa World newspaper as well. Sorry, I don't have that link.

17. A DLC Dem is better

than a Repuke, right? In KS we elected a (DLC) Dem for Governor last year. She is millions of times better than the Repuke who challenged her, even if she is a conservative Dem.
We haven't had a Dem Senator in KS in my lifetime. I would vote for a conservative Dem in heartbeat if it meant we could get rid of Brownback. Fact of the matter is, I might love to have a liberal Governor but a liberal wouldn't stand a chance here.
