Man executed for corruption

. .CHINA has executed Li Yushu, the former vice mayor of southwestern Leshan city, after he was found guilty of massive graft charges, state media reported.

China executes former vice mayor for massive graft Li abused a series of official positions in the city, mostly in the transportation sector, to amass bribes totaling 8.9 million yuan, the China News Service said.

Earlier reports said Li had spent a large part of his ill-gotten money on a teenage waitress he had fallen in love with.

China's Communist Party has declared war on graft on a series of occasions, and heavy punishments - including the death penalty - are frequently meted out to offenders.

. . . .

WOW - we'd sure have a lot of dead Murrikkkan Executives !

1. It boggles the mind.
If 8.9 million dollars is the cut-off for an execution, it would get very bloody around here -- but it certainly would bring balance to our penal system.

2. In other news from China
the Communist party announced that the launch of a manned spacecraft scheduled for this week won't be televised live. Apparently, they're afraid of failure.

They've been doing a lot of chest puffing about this 40-year-old technology they're trying to discover. As I recall, when the U.S. launched Al Sheppard it shown live.

Sounds like they have cold feet.

3. Well, maybe capitol punishment does have some merit...
We could learn some lessons from China about controlling government corruption.

Did I say that?

7. It's 'capital' punishment
But I love the implication of the NEW and IMPROVED death penalty: CapitOL Punishment, meaning a special penalty for the evil creeps in the US capitol. Freudian?

5. Do you think Ashcroft might preside cheerily over that prosecution?
After all, he's in favor of pushing sentences to their limits..
