Hispanic, Islamic Groups Want Tancredo Out
Hispanic, Islamic Groups Want Tancredo Out

Monday July 25, 2005 10:46 PM

By STEVEN K. PAULSON

Associated Press Writer

DENVER (AP) - Hispanic and Muslim groups called on Rep. Tom Tancredo to resign Monday, saying he has embarrassed Colorado by suggesting that Americans bomb Islamic holy sites if terrorists launch a nuclear attack on the United States.

They also criticized the GOP congressman's staunch advocacy of tougher immigration controls.

``Enough is enough. We're here to say 'Stop,''' Hispanic activist Manolo Gonzalez-Estay told a crowd of about 200 people at the state Capitol.

Abdur-Rahim Ali, imam of the Northeast Denver Islamic Center, said Tancredo's statement that ``you could take out'' Islamic holy sites in a retaliatory attack was unacceptable.

2. Hispanic, Islamic Groups Aren't The Only Ones
To say such things, then backtrack--claiming that it's just what could happen, not what he'd do himself--serves no one, not even himself...although that's clearly the only thing he thinks of.

Rednecks may love him, but I can't imagine anyone else does.

11. Hey, I'm proud of the people of Colorado
for standing up and denouncing this piece of crap. This will be a great coalition building start and with some work, Dems can take the state back.

Anyone who gets 60% or less is vunerable. Especially if they make STUPID STUPID comments like he has been.

10. He lives in a lily white district
Jefferson County (the bulk of his district) consists mostly of rich white Republicans, with a few hispanics, and a very small number of muslims. If someone has an exact demographic breakdown I'd be interested to see it.

7. The Michael Savage-wing of the GOP
So now we know who represents the Michael Savage-wing of the Republican Party. These are the people who would form the bedrock of an American fascist movement. It'll be interesting (possibly frightening) to see how much support Tancredo garners if he does go through with a bid for the Presidency. It'll likely attract all sorts of right wing fringe types who normally accuse the Republicans of being too far left (Minutemen supporters, Patriot Militia members, white supremacists, etc.), the kind of exceptionally insane right wingers who normally don't vote in national elections or vote for something like the Constitution Party.

8. I'm white and want him out too
I hope they make Tancredo's life really uncomfortable until he resigns in shame. His remarks were not only embarrassing, they are reflecting the Islamic world's worst fears about the US...that the US would use nukes on them. Guess he never got the memo that no one would survive a worldwide nuclear war. But he doesn't think about consequences - too complicated for a republican.

These groups have my support too. It's Tancredo holding public office that is unacceptable.

12. Dangerous omments such as made by Tancredo
lower our chances of survival in this tumultuous world of today. This man should be made to resign from Congress. As a member of that body, he happens to represent all citizens of the US, not just Coloradans. Are there any petitions calling for his resignation?
