(India) Honda workers turn violent, cops go berserk
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 06:10 AM by paagal kutta
Excessive force used by the police to stop a 1000-strong workers’ protest turned Gurgaon into a battleground today. At least 400 people — including over 350 protestors — were injured. The condition of some are serious. Unconfirmed reports say that the figure could be higher.

======
footage of the protest is on TV round the clock. i was shocked at the brutality of the police, which had surrounded the protestors and were flaying them with fat canes like they were cattle. people were bleeding, screaming, and still the cops rained blows on them. the workers were protesting the firing of some Honda workers. The whole thing was triggered off by an apparent case of physical abuse by a foreign honda executive on a local worker. when workers protested, they were fired, and hence the protest that turned into a violent bloodbath.

1. Step one in Unionizing Indian workers?
How long will the people of India stand for being treated like slave labor? How long will it be before they start demanding a living wage, maybe some health benefits is a country where health is a major concern? :shrug:
Then again, there are so many out of work there, these Captains of Industry could find 100 people queuing up for each job they already offer.
The Corporate World's use and abuse of these people cannot go on unchecked forever. Perhaps this is the first step toward worker's rights in India. One can only hope!

5. India's a powder keg because they are just starting to feel the effects
of outsourcing.

Yeah, you heard me right. Outsourcing.

Malaysia, Taiwan, and South Korea, too.

Their jobs are now starting to be outsourced to China where labor is much cheaper.

18. I can't believe Honda would be condone such fascist behavior.
Well, sure, the Japanese were a little bit to the right during the 1930s and 1940s, but who can remember that far back? Certainly no red-blooded BushAmerican.
