New London agency agrees to moratorium on eminent domain

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Fresh off a victory in the U.S. Supreme Court
that allowed the seizing of property for private development, a New
London agency has agreed to hold off on construction plans while state
lawmakers consider limiting eminent domain powers.

Michael Joplin, president of the New London Development Corp., told
The Day of New London that his agency will allow houses in the Fort
Trumbull neighborhood to stand while the legislature takes up the
eminent domain issue.

State lawmakers have asked all local governments in Connecticut to
refrain from seizing property for private development until they decide
whether such action should be allowed.

Rell is a hypocrite.

Also, most of Fort Trumball is owned by absentee landlords and the homes are dilapidated or unused. The Kelo family no longer lives there. They found a new home last year.

Towns have a right to eminent domain. The real question is "What is a fair price to compensate home owners with?" Appraisal value is too low.

2. Until Connecticut restores property ownership rights...
...there is no point in investing in a family home in that state, since if the land has potential, any corporation can steal it.

3. I was shocked at that ruling and the ones that did it.
My father always said that would happen and he was in the GOP. He used to say business would get towns to tax you off your own property to get the land and it is going on on the water front in this state now.It was more or less UNDER the full view of every one then. We all knew what was going on but it really was not spelled out. One place even got the beach made private. Lakes are sort of doing the same thing. You can see who is going to own and enjoy the water front in your grandchild en's days. Not the ave. wage of $35,000 believe me.:think:
