"Ellen Craswell was an anomaly," said state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance. "Her views did not reflect the Republican Party's values. If you're looking for a radical conservative party, that's not the Republican Party. Never has been, never will be."
Vance said Republicans, who have a dismal track record in statewide elections, have a strong chance to beat the Democrats in next year's races for governor and the U.S. Senate. For that to happen, he says, Republican Party leaders need to enforce discipline to avoid a repeat of the circumstances that allowed Christian conservatives to seize control of the party during the 1990s.
