China has nine brigades of ICBMs, Web site claims
The 2005 US report on Chinese military power has a previously undisclosed part that says China has nine brigades armed with intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching the US, claims an article on a Web site which specializes on China's military weapons.
The article, carried by the Web site www.zgjunshi.com, claims that the unreleased part of the Pentagon report released July 19 says that three of the nine brigades are equipped with Dong Feng-31 land-based mobile strategic missiles, with the other six armed with Dong Feng-5 ICBMs.

In addition, China's 094 nuclear submarines, armed with strategic missiles, have undertaken many secret sea trials.

Is it not a fact that the Communists murdered more people in one day than the entire decades of Saddam's rule of Iraq? So why aren't any Repukes, Abrams, Rove, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Powell, FOX... calling for an invasion and trial for Chinese leaders?

1. Whoops
I guess that's one country Chimpy left off the axis of evil list.

Could the cheap labor they provide plus the massive amounts of our debt they own have something to do with it?

Because they force people into disgusting labor situations and wreak havok on the environment, which repukes highly admire. Repukes aren't against totalitarian states, they are against rights of the individual.

4. I am an amateur in military strategic command... this confuses me.
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 11:27 PM by expatriot
When a military unit of an operational size is affixed with a special auxiliary unit (i.e. divisions with auxilliary brigades, brigades with auxiliary regiments, regiments with auxiliary companies) it is to give the operational unit a special and/or enhanced capability in its operations (i.e heavy artillery, engineers, anti-tank, anti-air, etc.)

How would affixing ICBMs to a brigade give particular support to that brigade's operational mission?

5. I haven't the foggiest and am wondering the same thing too.
The amount of missiles and warheads seems like it would be more important than the amount of people who man them...

6. I'm no expert on the Chinese TOE
but I believe their rocket forces are organized around the Soviet model, and each brigade is in of itself an independent unit that has support units attached to it, rather then the other way around.

10. The Chinese missile brigades are operational commands....
...that report to an artillery corps. These two articles may help understand their TOE structure:

DONG FENG - JULANG
EAST WIND - GREAT WAVE

<http://www.machtres.com/chinad.htm>

QUOTE:

"The Second Artillery Corps is comprised of approximately 120,000 personnel and maintains control of over 300 nuclear warheads. According to the Chinese Central Military Commission (CMC) the Second Artillery Corps is given priority funding over all other PLA units. Although it only makes up about 4 percent of the PLA, it receives 12 to 15 percent of the defense budget and about 20 percent of the total procurement budget. When the PLA cut 1 million personnel in the 1980s, Second Artillery Corps ranks increased in total size.

The Second Artillery Corps is headquartered in Qinghe, a suburb of Beijing and maintains at least seven missile bases each with one to three missile brigades and regiment-level special departments responsible for chemical defense, communications, training, security and four launch battalions. Each base also has training and nuclear warhead maintenance units and reports directly to the Second Artillery Corps commander. Each missile brigade commands a number of permanent launch sites. For ease of maintenance, each missile brigade is responsible for only one type of missile."

7. and how many does the U.S. have?
Frankly, you either ban ALL nukes in the world, or you allow all nukes, everything else is a joke, how one country can have a moral authority to have them, while another country cannot

8. and why don't they talk about the murders Chiang Kai-shek did
and all the money and treasures he stole in his escape from China?

Why don't they talk about the genocide in the Sudan?

The U.S. had no right to go into Iraq, and they have no right to go into China, both are internal affairs.

9. Meh....They won't use them..
China is in the position its in today because its not stupid. They value their rapidly growing economy and stature in the world more than anything else. They won't take any action that jeopardizes their rising prosperity or respect on the international stage.

Their military buildup is strictly a deterrent. They want to deter Taiwan from declaring independence and they want to deter the United States from interferring in the region. They aren't building up to go on an offensive conquest circa Japan 1937.
