Rumsfeld urges Iraq to meet constitution deadline
Wed Jul 27, 2005 3:41 AM ET

By Will Dunham

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made an
unannounced visit to Baghdad on Wednesday and urged Iraqis to finish
their draft constitution before an Aug. 15 deadline.

"We don't want any delays," Rumsfeld told reporters. "Now's the time
to get on with it."

He also said Iraqi leaders should resist what he described as
interference by neighbors Syria and Iran. Washington accuses Syria of
allowing militants to enter Iraq, and says Iran is trying to gain
political influence in Baghdad.

"It's important for them (the Iraqis) to work with their neighbors
to see that the behavior of particularly Iran and Syria improves.
It has been harmful," he said.

We will not stand for foreign interference (except our own).

1. edited for clarity
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made an unannounced visit to Baghdad to finish their draft constitution before an Aug. 15 deadline.

He also said Iraqi leaders should resist what he described as interference by neighbors Syria and Iran. Syrian militants are being allowed to enter Iraq, and currently we only allow American militants to do that. Iran is trying to gain political influence in Baghdad, and currently we only allow Americans to do that, also.

"It's important for the Iraqis to tell Iran and Syria how to behave, not the other way around," he said.

3. This part is hilarious:

Seeing as how Iraq and Iran are now joined at the hip with new agreements to buy electricity and refine gasoline from Iraq's oil and all the cuddling between them

Congratulations Rumfucked. Iran finally won the Iran/Iraq war and YOU did it for them....your favorite Axis of Evil country is now much bigger, more pissed off, has more radical islamic fighters and has LOTS OF OIL

4. As If A Piece Of Paper Constitutes A Nation or a Government
Rumsfeld will take that "paper nation" and use it in the commode.
