7. Story is on WBZ Ch. 4 right now.
Says tourists had their bags sent to South Station, got there and noticed a package not theirs was mixed in.

Another bystander sez "it's making noises."

Bomb squad on scene, reporter says they plan to detonate the package at some point.

LOTS of unanswered questions here.

Package Prompts South Station Evacuation
Call Received Thursday Morning

POSTED: 11:39 am EDT July 28, 2005
UPDATED: 11:58 am EDT July 28, 2005

BOSTON -- A report of a suspicious package at Boston's South Station rail terminal prompted the evacuation of the entire station Thursday morning. Police also cordoned off surrounding streets.

According to police, a call on a suspicious package was received about 10:50 a.m., primarily affecting commuter rail service.

Authorities have not said whether anything was discovered at the station. No injuries have been reported.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority rail and bus lines operate out of South Station, as do Amtrak trains.

South Station evacuated after bomb scare

By Adam Jadhav, Globe Correspondent | July 28, 2005

Authorities evacuated South Station this morning after responding to reports of a suspicious piece of luggage in the concourse.

The MBTA Transit Police explosives detection unit X-rayed the bag using a robot and found it did not contain any explosives, but shortly after noon decided to examine it again.

Police evacuated the concourse after the call about the bag came in about 11 a.m., saying it appeared to have been tampered with. Commuter rail service has been suspended, according to a posting on the MBTA website.

However, Red Line and Silver Line service reportedly were not affected.
