GOP Puts Up First Senate Campaign Ad

Republicans accuse West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd of sharply changing his priorities over the last five decades in the first television ad purchased by either of the campaign committees in a warmup to the 2006 congressional campaign.

The Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee announced Thursday it has spent "tens of thousands" of dollars for an ad that will start Friday and run on network and cable television in the Charleston, W.Va., market. The final amount spent and length of time the ad will run have not been settled, said Brian Nick, a committee spokesman.

The ad shows a picture of Byrd as a brown-haired young man with a bow tie and a fiddle under his chin that alternates with a picture of the white-haired senator, who is now 87. Byrd entered the Senate in 1958 and is in his eighth term.

"Byrd voted for soldiers in the 50s, but he voted against body armor in the war on terror. Back then, he stood with working families ... today he votes for higher taxes for the middle class." The first claim refers to a 2003 bill providing money for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the second refers to Byrd's votes against President Bush's proposed tax cuts.

4. Not constant ads. Just a flurry every couple of months

then more frequently once the election nears. Don't waste ad money fighting each other (Dem vs Dem in the primaries)...save it for the BIG target.

My complaint about back-to-back ads all in the last few months is that is becomes overload. But to plant the seeds early, like the out-of-state residency, cyber-ripoff school scandal, the Schiavo intrusion, etc. and just run them periodically then reinforce at the end. I know it costs money but I'm just talking about planting the seeds now.

I do direct mail. Early mail helps to break through the clutter. However, I'm sure this is a finance issue. Don't worry though. The Republicans aren't beating Byrd.

We HAVE lost almost 1800 soldiers in Iraq and there were no WMDs;

We HAVE lost an X Billion surplus in our treasury and now have X Billions in National Debt, and a lot of this money found its way into the pockets of Haliburton and their other contributors.

Do you still want to believe anything these guys say?
