MILTON, Fla. - An activist with ties to anti-abortion violence has been jailed after losing an appeal of his conviction and 18-year prison sentence for molesting a teenager at the home for troubled girls he operated.

Sheriff's deputies took John Burt, 67, into custody Wednesday. A three-judge panel of a state appeals court on Friday unanimously upheld his conviction on five counts of lewd or lascivious molestation or conduct with a child under 16.

Defense lawyer Nicole Ferry said Burt will appeal further.

Burt has been a key figure in anti-abortion protests and violence in nearby Pensacola. He had associated with Michael Griffin, now serving a life sentence for fatally shooting an abortion doctor in 1993, and Paul Hill, executed in 2003 for the shooting deaths of another doctor and clinic escort in 1994.

many of the men who are working in the child protective services both as counselors and foster fathers are into molesting children. It is really worse than a crime. I was a children's advocate and three of the foster homes my kids were in had molesting men. Also one of the child counselors. It was really sickening. On the outside it is hard to tell who is a child molester, but I found that the molesters had one thing in common, they were all control freaks.

I am taking a hiatus from the work at the moment. My last case which was supposed to last 6 to 18 months lasted for seven years. It was a long and difficult road, but I took my children from the ages of 8, 9, and 11 through their childhood and graduated them all from high school without pregnancy or drug addiction. One of them is going to be a dynamite adult (she had the best parents who helped her grow), the other two, not so much. My favorite had such attachment problems that she demanded to be adopted by a woman who was not so great, the other, thank the Goddess, had as much help as she did, she could have been a real disaster. She managed to complete high school and get married before her first pregnancy. During that time we went through 6 social services workers, 2 interagency companies, 15 foster homes, 3 directors of our organization, 2 lawyers and three judges.

The experience was a 40 hour a week job that was on top of my running a million dollar plus company. Today, I am retired from both.

John Allen Burt, a long-time Pensacola, FL anti-abortion extremist, was arrested yesterday. A six-day search for him began last Thursday based on charges of sexual misconduct asserted by two teenage girls who were living at Our Father's House, Burt's so-called home for "unwed mothers," according to the Pensacola News Journal.

Local police authorities told the News Journal that they had investigated similar allegations in the past but this was the first time enough evidence had been collected to arrest Burt. A spokesperson for the Santa Rosa County sheriff's office told the Sarasota Herald Tribune that investigators were seeking others potential victims.

Our Father's House, run by Burt, is not regulated by the state. According to WEAR in Pensacola, it is accredited and inspected by the Florida Association of Christian Childcare Agencies, Inc. They also reported that based on past complaints, Burt was told he could not live in the home with the girls and could not be alone with any of the girls. It was not reported how these restrictions on Burt's activity at the shelter were monitored or enforced by the association.

John Burt has a long history of connections to violence against abortion clinics in the Pensacola area. He has been arrested numerous times for his participation disruptive protests and clinic invasions. A 1986 invasion led by Burt was the impetus for the NOW v. Scheidler case. Burt led protests in Pensacola on behalf of two couples that bombed three local clinics on Christmas Day in 1984, according to the Sarasota Herald Tribune. Burt was outside the Pensacola clinic when an Our Father's House volunteer, Michael Griffin, murdered Dr. David Gunn in 1993. Griffin's family later claimed that John Burt had manipulated Griffin. Burt is also an associate of Paul Hill who murdered Dr. Bayard Britton and volunteer escort James Barrett outside another local Pensacola clinic in 1994. Burt is on film helping Paul Hill identify Dr. Britton outside the clinic in the weeks before Hill shot and killed Dr. Britton and his clinic escort.

Anyone know how the situation was "found out"? Did the poor victim report him? If so, that was quite brave of her. Just wondering how these things eventually find their way to the authorities. After a treaty change in March 2004, however, the girl was able to testify via video from Northern Ireland. She said that Burt had touched her breasts, groin, and buttocks over a three-day period, that he had forced her to touch his groin, and that he had given her a note describing sex acts he wanted to perform with her. The court also heard testimony from another girl who had accused Burt of improperly touching her and masturbating in front of her. No charges were brought in that case.

The defense, meanwhile, which had already tried and failed to have the girls' psychiatric records admitted into evidence, attempted to portray the girls as disturbed teens who were seeking attention or trying to aid lawsuits brought by their parents against Burt. Burt and his wife Linda testified that the note was meant for her, and that after Burt had been accused of molestation in February 2003 they had created a living arrangement that kept Burt away from the girls. Officials at the Department of Children and Families disputed that claim, testifying that they were the ones who had come up with the plan. Burt himself claimed he was subject to blackouts and that he could not remember what had happened while he was alone with the victim the night he was accused of giving her the note.

Burt has also done jail time for carrying his clinic protests too far, and he's shocked many with antics like brandishing an aborted fetus in front of a TV camera during a live interview. But Burt convinced many others that he was a good man honoring his religious beliefs. It didn't hurt that he and his wife had long run Our Father's House, a shelter for troubled junior high and high school girls.

Scheidler also agreed to enter, if he thought he could do so without being arrested. Sure enough, the next day, John Burt, Joan Andrews and others invaded the clinic. They threw the clinic's administrator down the stairs, injuring her badly; they shoved a NOW volunteer against a wall, causing her permanent injury; and they wrecked the medical equipment, putting the clinic out of business for several days. During the mayhem, Scheidler stood outside, handling press relations for his group. He praised those who went in and took credit for the invasion and property destruction. Although criminal charges were filed against Burt and Andrews, because of his key role in organizing the violence, Scheidler was equally responsible, but it took RICO to hold him liable for those wrongs.

Anti-abortion events in John's life.

1978: John and his wife Linda begin street ministry. They start inviting street people to their home. Their desire to assist street people in finding and growing in the Lord, prompted them to open "Our Father's House".

1981: John reads in a Pensacola newspaper that there are 7 abortions for every 10 live births in his area. John begins his anti-abortion ministry.

June 25, 1984: Bombing in the Ladies Center;around $40,000 damage.

December 25, 1984: Three Pensacola abortion mills are bombed.

February 1985: John Burt with two other anti-abortionist are arrested at the office of Abortionist Bo Bagenholm when they entered the babykiller's office to talk directly to the women who were about to murder their babies. Gets 5 months probation.

March 1985: Burt tries to show a "real" unborn baby on live TV to show the reality and horror of abortion.

April 24, 1985: Matthew Goldsby and James Simmons are found guilty of December 84 abortion mill bombings

....This year, two more nail-studded bombs struck Atlanta -- on Jan. 16 at a women's clinic, and on Feb. 21 at a gay nightclub. After the second blast, a crude, unsigned, semi-literate letter was sent to the Reuters news agency, which turned it over to the FBI.

The letter said both bombs were placed by "units of the Army of God." It said anyone involved with abortion "may become victims of retribution." As for the homosexual club, it said, ungrammatically: "We will target sodomites, there organizations, and all those who push there agenda."

In militia-like tones, the letter threatened both the United Nations and the U.S. government. With misspellings, it said:

32. Found a site which describes what the anti-abortionists do outside

the clinics. When I saw it, it occurred to me they may snag some of the young people going in for counseling and herd them into their own programs.... It's quite possible from the way this site looks:

Sidewalk Counselors on the other hand . . .

Women sidewalk counselors often make a point of telling what sluts they were, and how many abortions they had, before getting saved. Male sidewalk counselors will dart around holding 4 by 6-foot posters of fetal remains, like a bunch of gruesome rodeo clowns, doing their best to herd the quarry away from The Gates of Hell.

A Hurting Mom is any woman of child-bearing age who's on the public sidewalk at the wrong place and the wrong time. Deep down she knows she owes God's People an explanation. If she bursts into tears, that's because the Holy Spirit has convicted her, and not like those proaborts say, because a bunch of strangers have run up to her, shouting slogans and waving signs. And if she's not going for an abortion, maybe she'll change her sluttish ways anyhow, and thank those dear sidewalk counselors.
