Drug Czar Says Medical Marijuana 'Dying'
Drug Czar Says Medical Marijuana 'Dying'
By AUDREY McAVOY, Associated Press Writer

Friday, July 29, 2005

(07-29) 19:47 PDT Honolulu (AP) --

The White House drug czar said Friday that medical marijuana is "dying out" after the Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that federal authorities may prosecute sick people whose doctors prescribe pot to ease pain.

John Walters, the national drug policy director, said state legislative efforts to expand medical marijuana programs have stalled in the two months since the high court's ruling overrode laws in Hawaii and nine other states.

"I think it's dying out," Walters told reporters after a meeting with Hawaii drug treatment counselors and law enforcement officials. "The real issue here is, is it the safe and best way for medical treatment? We don't think the best thing for people who are really sick is to make them high and send them away."

Walters said the federal government was funding research into whether cannabis could be used as a source of "medically sound" drugs, but he said "smoked marijuana hasn't met that science."

3. here's a clue for the drugCzar
It's not the laws that are dying.

of course he'd need a working understanding of 'empathy' to utilize the clue.

10. Didn't you get the memo?
Empathy automatically prevents you from any job in the Chimp Administration. No, all you have to do is to suffer agony, then die. It's your fault, after all, because you lost your job to outsourcing, or due to ill health... this is an "ownership society", and you should have owned enough to keep you from despair and death's door.

No, it's worth any price to keep people from a remedy that does not enrich the corporations that keep Bush and his cronies extremely rich. Next you're going to want such frivolous extras as enough food, and shelter, and who knows where it will all end?

Some mega-rich spoiled frat boy like our inglorious leader might not be able to own his 5th or 6th luxury home, and sheesh, how selfish can you be?

7. It pisses me off
our government permits and issue's Methadone to more than 100,000 nationwide, then our government allows young kids to take "Uppers" such as "Ritalin" not to forget all those "Pain meds" such as "oxycotin" and for moms we have "Valiums" yet sick people cant legally smoke a joint,a medicine that alleviates pain and encourages people to eat.wow...what a lousy shame..its my belief if Americans came together, million or more and on cue' lit up a joint in protest to unfair drug laws we'd would overwhelm government.Hey hemp has been a staple product of America since 1650,yes for over 300 years hemp has been food, fuel, cloth, paper, and other great products. In the early 1800's people paid their tax with hemp, bartered hemp, ans yes, smoked hemp.Great people such as Washington,Franklin,Jefferson,Lincoln,Bubba and even this turd bush...keep in mind "pot smokers" come in all sizes, parties, colors, races, religions, professions, ages, all have the desire to see hemp once again be a legal, tender product

19. "Drugs Czar indicted for negligent homicide"
For all the millions of people who are affected by the drugs laws and
the 1000's who needlessly die every year from unknown drugs supplied
outside of any regulatory framework, the drugs czar should be
indicted and thrown in prison for life.

He is the latest schill to declare victory against flash floods, standing
in a dry gully before a rainstorm. He's nothing but an uneducated fool
like the load of other ignorant trash that get hired by that
administration.

Not familiar with clinical research about marijuana's potential anti-cancer properties? You're not alone.
Pot Shows Promise as Cancer Cure: http://www.alternet.org/drugreporter/20008/

Not surprised you haven't heard of this, did you know eating meat causes cancer? It's not pesticides or antibiotics in the meat or anything like that either, it's ANIMAL PROTEIN.

29. I have never thought medical mariuana helps legalization.
Marijuana should simply be legal because it is fun and less harmful than alchohol. Adults are entitled to it, not because it can be tenuously tied to medical benefits but because they are adults and are entitled to "fun" if it doesn't hurt anyone. A joint-a-day habit is stupid, but at an occasional party or at home with your significant other, the responsible use of marijuana should be allowed. That argument just needs to be repeated over and over.

One day, marijuana WILL be legal in this country, because a majority of Americans know the truth about this beneficial plant.
