Saddam 'attacked' after hearing
Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was attacked by an unidentified man after questioning by the Iraqi special tribunal on Thursday, his lawyers say.
"One of those present attacked him and there was an exchange of blows between the man and the president," the lawyers said in a statement.

They did not say whether he was hurt. The tribunal has not commented.

Saddam Hussein was being questioned over his role in the suppression of Kurdish and Shia uprisings in 1991.

18. They will say "he just wanted to spare Saddam's wife the agony of a trial"
It would spare the BFEE a lot of agony as well. Also, it would help keep the memory of St. Reagan pristine for the true believers.

5. Lawyers: 'exchange of blows' with ex-Iraqi leader; U.S. denies incident
AMMAN, Jordan - Lawyers for Saddam Hussein said on Saturday their client was attacked by an unidentified man during a court appearance in Baghdad this week, but U.S. forces guarding him denied any such incident took place.
...
....a spokeswoman for detainee operations in Iraq, the U.S. military unit charged with overseeing the custody of prisoners including Saddam, said no such incident took place.

“Nothing like that happened with Saddam whatsoever,” Lieutenant Kristy Miller said.

The U.S. military is in charge of Saddam’s physical custody, although he is in Iraqi legal custody. Miller said that as far as she knew Saddam almost never leaves U.S. military sight.

6. Sorry, Lt. Miller....
But you guys said pretty much the same thing about Abu Grahib at first, too...

Maybe the attacker was one of our "Holy Warriors" who got caught up in the spirit and took it upon themselves to "smite the Sinner"...

7. The US govt says no such incident took place
If the US govt says no such incident took place, then you can pretty much bet your bottom dollar that Saddam WAS INDEED attacked. Probably by Rumsfeld himself.

11. Now, now... cast your aspersions elsewhere....Rummy
is an evil blood-drinking freakazoid of a sub-human, but he WAS a pilot in the US Navy and flew missions.

Of all of them, he is one of the few NON-chickenhawks.

19. Well, he was out of the navy by 1958, according to Wikipedia
So, although he flew missions, I don't know if he actually flew combat missions in the sense most people understand the term. I suppose any naval flying is dangerous though.

"Donald Rumsfeld graduated from New Trier High School and attended Princeton University on scholarship (BA, 1954) and served in the United States Navy (1954-57) as a Naval aviator. He went to Washington, DC, in 1957, during the Eisenhower Administration, to serve as Administrative Assistant to a Congressman from Ohio. After a stint with investment banking firm A. G. Becker from 1960 to 1962, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives from Illinois in 1962, at the age of 30, and was re-elected in 1964, 1966, and 1968."

23. All Naval Aviation missions are combat missions
Against the sea and sky. Especially in the 50's

I did not say combat, but he is not a chickenhawk.

And anyone who knows my posts here knows that for me to defend Rummy on anything is quite odd.

But you can't say he is a chickenhawk.

22. He was a flight instructor during peacetime without any mention of either
serving overseas or has any combat experience at all. If he was a combat veteran I believe the fact would have been widely publicized. All the information I've seen he did an ROTC commitment to help pay for college and was not on active duty during a conflict or involved in any hostile actions or stationed in any war zones. If you know he isn't a chicken hawk be specific about when and where his combat experience occurred until then I standby the fact that he's about as big a war hero as the "idiot."

I guess it means that Saddam is not about to drop dead from cancer anytime soon if there were an "exchange of blows" so to speak. It seems the story awhile back was that Saddam's failing health was a very serious perhaps (?). Seems he is quite alive and still kicking. How strange at best.

17. "Two men enter -- one man leaves . . . "
Put him in "Thunderdome" and see if he can fight his way out. Tina Turner will preside.

The way this Administration handles things, maybe a throwback to the ancient "trial by battle" is next.

16. I'm surprised he's still alive
I thought for sure by now they would have found him "dead in his cell, an apparent suicide". The Bush family knows that this is one guy who KNOWS where the "bodies are buried", and I am not talking about Shiite Muslims. Right Rummy???

20. He must still have something on the BFEE.
That's all I can think of. Maybe a manila envelope full of damning documents (damning to Bush I and Reagan, for example) that will turn up at some international news desk the moment he dies. That has long been my assumption anyway.

24. Perhaps evidence about provision of chemical weapons by Reagan.
Reagan's government was also said to have given Saddam targeting information during the Iraq-Iran war. But all of this is fairly well known, so perhaps there is something more.

I would put my money on something to do with Iran-contra. Something that conclusively shows that Reagan, Bush I, or other important figures in the power structure broke laws that would have resulted in impeachment and ignominy. Something that even the most rabid conservative couldn't defend.

29. He probably WAS attacked
The only denial is from a US military spokesperson, who by definition is probably nor trustworthy. Most Iraqis LOATHED Saddam. The current problems may, in fact, be because a small minority of Saddam loyalists trying to restore him or his "vision" to power, but I suspect has a lot more to do with the fact that the US has been killing women and children there for the last fifteen years.

"As ye reap, so shall you sow." We shold have accepted his surrender when he offered it.
