Trump says he'll renovate the U.N. quicker, cheaper
Trump says he'll renovate the U.N. quicker, cheaper
By Charisse Jones, USA TODAY
Fri Jul 29, 7:20 AM ET

Donald Trump, the flamboyant real estate developer who has put his stamp on everything from a Central Park skating rink to some of the priciest high-rises in Manhattan, now is offering to leave his mark on no less than the United Nations.

Trump, host of The Apprentice, a reality TV show, says he is willing to oversee the renovation of the U.N.'s worn headquarters, saving the international body billions of dollars and allowing it to focus its resources on fighting famine and AIDS instead.

And he'll do it for free.

"I'm offering to bring it in way under budget ... and much quicker," Trump said. "I don't want any fees. I'd like to do it for humanity."

1. Now he's the one who has declared bankruptcy TWICE, yes?
Keep the fuckin' leech AWAY.

He sure as hell wouldn't hire anybody who had to declare bankruptcy; so why should he a - a "man" (for lack of a scathingly accurate definition) who has chosen to declare it twice just to escape his obligations be allowed to work with anything financially-oriented?!

2. Let him put up a bid and show how he plans to finance it.
If he has a credible proposal, I'd love to see it.
If The Donald runs the project the way he runs his casinos,
it's doomed.

4. Trump has a reputation for not paying contract prices or nothing at all
to his subcontractors. He thinks their compensation is the fact that they can tell others they worked for Donald Trump.

5. Why?
Does he have inside information? My feeling is that Bush wants to abolish and destroy the UN. When that happens, are they planning to renovate the building and turn it into another commerical office complex?

12. his dad fred trump slum lord
well known the reason he never got a gaming license in nevada because he can't pass their qualifications because of his mob ties

now he's going to come in under the door and get a place in vegas anyway

but they kept him out for over 20 yrs because of documented ties

in atlantic city his dad was forbidden to invest because his money was dirty, so his dad played until he lost the millions he intended to invest at the baccarrat table, in this way getting the son the dirty money anyway

you are welcome to look it up, tho i realize name-calling is easier

try "casino 101," some of the trumps' antics described there including fred losing $3 million at baccarrat when donald was short of cash and new jersey gaming commission denied fred the right to make donald the loan

7. What is there to lose?
If "the Donald" wants to sink a billion of his own money into renovating the United Nations building, that's fine with me -- just as long as he puts up a completion bond of three times the value of his estimate. A pittance for Mr. Trump, really.

And if he makes good, give credit where credit is due.

Most US plutocrats are right-wing Republican puppeteers; Trump is still a po'-boy Democrat who never forgot what it's like to be poor. He donates often and well to Democratic (and a few select moderate Republican) candidates. He might not be Che Guevara, but I've seen the likes of FAR worse.

11. He never said he would pay the costs
for repairing the building. He said he would not charge his regular fee. The cost would be $700 million rather that the estimated $1.3 billion, if done by the UN, if he took over the project.

24. Donald Trump: Master of the Bankruptcy Court
If it weren't for pleading poverty every two years, then working the system to squirrel away cash, this guy would have been living in a bachelor apartment with a hot plate and a cockroach-ridden mattress 10 years ago.

25. That's great news. He's a good developer.
If any one know buildings, it's him. And that just happens to be where he remains successful.

Other, less well known thing to him aparently, like casinos, are not successful at all for him.

That's why he has returned to his "roots" and things that have proven successful.

Big ego - definitely. But you have to admit, he does know a lot.

He takes a lot of chances - a lot don't succeed - but that's the ones we hear about. It's all the successes that we don't hear that much about.

Did I mention he married ANOTHER "young thing" - Miss Ukraine - again?!

Still don't understand the bankruptcy thing - but he aparently has a lot of companies - and it was the separate business entities that went belly up and left people holding the bag, while other ones, namely the ones where he does his successful condo developments, continue to do exceedingly well.

Hate the guy for leaving the "lessor people" holding the bag. He also got refi's because the magnitude of his debts were so staggering, that is was deemed more important to loan him more than to pull the plug.

Our company is doing a big-name project with him - but I only run the projects - don't have any hand in dealing with him or say in the contract negotiations - my boss must know something we don't or can't see. The latest contract was signed just as the announcement of his latest bankruptcy was hitting the news a year or so ago.
