Iran to resume nuclear programme
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4733557.stm

Iran has announced it will resume its controversial nuclear programme imminently in the face of a European Union appeal to wait for talks.

Officials said they would inform UN nuclear inspectors of the move on Monday and then begin converting raw uranium at a plant in Isfahan.

The UK, which is leading EU attempts to negotiate a compromise, said the move would make further talks difficult.

Iran has rejected the charge that it is pursuing nuclear weapons.

if the member of the axis of evil gets a nuclear weapon it is immune to attack and forces the US to negotiate.

Iran to resume nuclear work in defiance of EU
Mon Aug 1, 2005 11:30 AM ET

By Jon Hemming

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran said it would break U.N. seals on a nuclear plant on Monday and resume work that the West suspects could help it build an atom bomb, defying EU warnings such a step could crush hopes of a negotiated solution.

Two years of hard bargaining over a nuclear program that Tehran had kept secret for 18 years appeared to be heading toward a crisis that could see Iran's case sent to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions.

The EU "Big Three" of Britain, France and Germany have been trying to mediate between the United States, which insists Iran is trying to produce nuclear weapons, and the Islamic Republic that says it has a right to develop peaceful atomic technology.
