Rupert Murdoch's News Corp media empire is unlikely to survive intact beyond its founder's lifetime and will be broken up, according to a former Murdoch lieutenant.

5. You gotta hand it to him, though...

"The Simpsons" is about the most creative TV series, IMHO. "Seinfeld" to me is not even a close second. Both shows started ca. 1989-1990 (Simpsons first appeared in 1987 as a series of 30-second spots produced for the Emmy Award-winning variety series "The Tracey Ullman Show"). However, while Seinfeld ended in 1998, Simpsons is set to run to 2008. I like to imagine Seinfeld's characters as Simpson characters. For example, Seinfeld is Bart. Kramer is Krusty. Elaine is Mrs. Krabappel. George is Milhouse. Newman is Nelson. Your comparisons?

telling us about the upcoming demise of Fox? He used to work there and left. I'd like to see the link if anyone has it. It was an awesome post.

8. It proves the old wisdom - that the first generation builds the empire,

the second consolidates it, and the third loses it.

The reasoning is that the first generation builds from nothing
(Rupert's father), the second consolidates it - they remember the
early years of struggle and want to prove themselves, but the third
generation is raised in privilege and has no hunger and no need to
prove themselves, and the impetus to build is lost.

We in Australia can only hope that Jamie Packer also loses his
father's empire - he too seems to lack the killer instinct. Given
the way these two families have subverted the political process for
their own ends, we can only hope this is how it pans out.
